How Mayor-elect Raman will remake L.A. City Hall
Los Angeles Times ^ | Nov. 5, 2026 11:40 AM PT | David Zahniser, Colleen Shalby and Itzel Luna

Bike lanes. Housing vouchers. A new police chief and many more new apartments, even in single-family neighborhoods.

And above all, data to find out if City Hall programs are working.

Mayor-elect Nithya Raman won’t represent a radical ideological break from her opponent, one-term incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. Like Bass, she’s a Democrat who believes in ending homelessness, keeping the city safe and delivering basic services.

But Raman is expected to push the city to the left on public safety, while also advancing urbanist policies that favor public transit, greater housing production and the redesign of city streets to improve safety and support alternatives to driving.

Rick Cole, a former deputy Los Angeles mayor who advised Raman throughout the campaign, said she’s dead serious about her campaign slogan “a city that works” — taking steps to ensure that streets, sidewalks and other parts of the city infrastructure are repaired, while also providing prompt responses to 911 calls.

Raman intends to be a hands-on manager, he said, improving coordination between city departments and analyzing ways to make them more effective.

“L.A. has been flying blind when it comes to measuring the impacts of the dollars spent,” said Cole, a Pasadena City Council member. “That is going to change.”

As mayor, Raman will have the power to hire and fire the managers of dozens of city agencies and appoint or remove hundreds of citizen commissioners — most of them volunteers — who will serve as an extension of her administration.

Cole is widely expected to supervise Raman’s transition team, sharing those duties with Andrea Conant, chief of staff for Raman’s council office. The mayor-elect will also have a close ally in City Controller Kenneth Mejia, the only elected official at City Hall to endorse her.

This woman has a history and she is even worse than Karen Bass

I know that does not even seem possible but it is.

LA is in a doom loop with no exit in sight.

I totally agree with noted social theorist Bill Maher - LA is heading for a 24/7 rendition of the dystopian movie The Purge

It’s all part & parcel of the Marxist-Leninist “Permanent” Revolution, where the wealth & power of the nation is transferred from individuals to the Central Party command & control artifice, which distributes to “loyalists” (BioLeninism).

I’ve watched, queried, studied, loved & been repulsed by “Americans” from Park Bench Bums to Park Place Billionaires; By the time I was 18 I’d traveled (working) through 39 states, 44 states total now.

Lot’s of Uniparty (D)&(R) partisans, nary a Son Of Liberty to be found (the trap) 😐

Used to be a hordes of hardworking, honest folk (mostly) that were happy with their lot; America was the land of peace, prosperity & promise, but the boomer hippies drank up that milkshake, poisoned it with lies, corruption, theft & fraudulent *everything* 🙊 🙈 🙉

That brings me to an anecdotal that’s indicative of the *rot* in Klownifornia, the once “Goilden” state:

I have a SIL that works as a community college “guidance” counselor in a San Diego county location...

She owns a *new* $2 million dollar McMansion in a gated community, drives Porsches & Mercedes (upgrading every 2-4 years) & provides for 2 of 3 children that failed to launch; Her husband (Int’l. negotiator) died from mRNA poisoning in 2021 (51 yo), leaving her a life insurance policy & some assets.

But something was off, to me, about her standard-of-living, so being she works for a “public” entity I looked for a financial report; Seems her salary is $255k with add on benefits pushing it well over $320k.

Then, for $hits & giggles, I looked at the other “salaries” for this community college; I had to peruse 55 pages of the ledger before I found “employees” making less than $100k!

This is not an outlier, this is the norm for California Communist Party “loyalists”...

The entire charade is based on “free” money created via “cheap” bonds, but that won’t last forever.

(Whilst the infrastructure & critical “services” rot into 3rd world status)

Anyone with *real* assets and/or business enterprises are fleeing the state en masse, which will soon include my wife & I, as the BioLeninism, gangs, racial animus & gen pop criminality/graft have become to odious to endure...

“It’s free, comrade, but we don’t have any.” ~ Mayor Karen

Omygosh. The brainwashing is strong in The LA Times. What stopped Bass from accomplishing those goals? Surely not a Republican City Council.

“the redesign of city streets to improve safety and support alternatives to driving.”

I wonder how the low-riding vatos in East LA will like this? (If there are any left.)

The Homeless Industrial Complex is a huge source of grift and political power in California. They do very little to help the homeless. That is not their purpose.

Bingo. 49% of the money goes to funding the bureaucracy, 49% goes to cronies, the rest is just wasted.
