Donald Trump will be blocked from putting a “rightwinger” on the US supreme court, according to Chuck Schumer, the soon-to-be Senate majority leader, in remarks that were a preview of how Democrats intend to wield their power come January.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Schumer said Democrats would not confirm “any crappy nominees” to the supreme court, lower courts or Trump’s cabinet.
“The bottom line is we’re not going to allow a rightwinger on the court,” Schumer said. Four supreme court justices are in their 70s, and its two most conservative justices, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, are the oldest on the court at 78 and 76 years old, respectively.
After scoring massive midterm-election wins and taking back both chambers of Congress, Democratic leaders are planning their comeback for when the new Congress is sworn in. That includes major pushback against the US president and his policies.
Some Democrats are planning to launch investigations into Trump and members of his administration. On Tuesday evening, Robert Garcia, the soon-to-be chair of the House oversight committee, warned Republicans to “lawyer up”.

Some were actually arguing here prior to the election that a GOP controlled Senate would be no more likely to confirm a Trump SCOTUS nominee than a Dem controlled Senate. They actually said that.
Let’s hope it’s one (or two) of the Supreme Court leftist witches that leaves or drops dead.
What will Scummer do, then?
If a liberal judge steps down or dies, the President will not nominate a replacement, who will be shot down. Same if it happens to a conservative justice.
Justice Ilhan Elmi.
What is the earliest that it is mathematically possible that we could take the Senate back? Is it possible in 2028? I don’t know offhand how much of the Senate is up for grabs every two years. They have a 6-year term, is it staggered among them?
Instead, he will focus on appointing justices who don’t know what a woman is (Ketanji Brown Jackson).
Nice to know this isn’t going to change.

I think you need a good statistician to get an answer. Another possibility is that the generational change of voters ensures that Ds will control Congress for a long time, until a major event.
This is the difference the feckless Republicans will let a rat get their nominee through.

Hopefully join them.
Or, that one of them was the Roe v Wade leaker and Jeanine Piro exposes them.

I agree that it will be difficult for us to do it. But I meant structurally when is it possible? Apparently a third of them come up for election every two years. But I am asking if the ones coming up in 2028 could give us even a structural possibility of flipping it back?
I believe an effective conservative leader will need to make changing the Constitution part of his program to be effective.
He won’t have to worry about that, seeing as the ones Trump previously appointed, turned out to be shite.
They’re good on the second amendment.
If you have the means order an ice car in the next two years exactly how you want it with the intention of driving it until it disintegrates.
Nice to know this isn’t going to change.
No kidding. Maybe Trump had no choice, but sad to say - he hasn't put a rightwinger on the court yet.
