Oil is now flowing out of the Persian Gulf like before the Iran war. Why prices may still not come down anytime soon.

Oil flows out of the Persian Gulf in October nearly returned to levels seen before the start of the Iran war, but traders remain wary about a fragile recovery.

Total crude exports in the region, or flows coming out of Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, recently recovered to within 10% of their previous levels in January and February, according to data compiled by TankerTrackers.com, a maritime intelligence firm tracking crude oil shipments (see chart below).

The rest of the article is behind the paywall. I asked AI why oil hasn't declined more.

Key Reasons Prices Haven't Dropped

On the first bullet point, Gemini provided a link to an article that detailed some of the high costs to move the oil:
At sea, some tankers operate as shuttles, collecting oil inside the Gulf and carrying it through Hormuz before transferring cargoes to other vessels near Oman. Those receiving ships then transport the oil to distant markets.
A supertanker traveling from the U.S. Gulf Coast to China was reportedly chartered for $76 million earlier this month, roughly 10 times the cost of a comparable voyage less than a year earlier.

Another article stated that oil traders expect US attacks to resume after the midterms.

Somebody needs to tell Isabel Wang Follow and Myra P. Saefong that they are ALREADY dropping.

Interesting to me that two asians wrote the article.

Some, like myself, believe our economy and the people at the ‘top’ are so screwed up that gas/diesel prices will never, ever, return even close to where they were. This is all OK with them as they are not affected, and it makes clearer to us our servile role in their society.

It’s conditioning... when Trump leaves office and another democrat is elected, prices will go up another $2 a gallon. It’s already in the works.

I find it difficult to believe that “protection money” to Iran is NOT being saved.

Respectfully, here's my take on the possibility of gas prices returning to "close to where they were".

1) Year 2020 gas prices are unrealistic because covid (or the reaction to covid) reduced driving and artificially reduced demand, which artificially reduced gas prices.

2) So I suggest using year 2019 gas prices as a realistic standard of what gas prices should be. Year 2019 means 3 years of Trump 1.0's impact on gas prices (before covid). Here (my neck of Alabama) gas prices were $2.60/gallon much of the year. (I've tracked gas prices each month as part of my data on if getting an EV was worth it based on how many miles we drive, including incorporating that into our solar project and if doing solar was worth it.)

3) Using the inflation calculator https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ and entering year 2019 and $2.60 for year 2026, it yields $3.43 as what I believe gas "should" be now based on how much inflation impacted everything else, but without special impact of energy decisions (i.e. Iran War).

4) Gas is currently $3.99 where I'm at, so 56 cents too high. Or 16% higher than it "should" be.

Is it reasonable to think that putting a final end to the Iran War would drop gas prices at least 16%? I think so.

Why? Do you think that the oil companies are in cahoots with the Democrats?

I see diesel prices anywhere from 5.50 to 6.50
There’s the biggest spread. More so than gasoline.

Yes. Oil companies have bent over backward to accommodate the left.

“Astronomical Shipping and Insurance Costs: Even though crude is moving through the Strait of Hormuz and alternative routes, chartering tankers and paying for high-risk maritime insurance add an extra $20 to $37 per barrel to the final delivered price. War-risk insurance has spiked to as much as 10% of a vessel’s value.”

The vessels used probably are older and less value.

The oil inside is more valuable than the old ship it would be in. The exporting country might refund payment for oil lost in any attack.

The US government might assess vessels and offer lower cost coverage, or it might buy the tankers outright, or the Trump Organization might get into the tanker business.

I’ve been an investor in oil companies for decades: production and exploration companies, refiners, royalty trusts, integrated oils, and most heavily in pipelines.

I have never ONCE met an exec who wasn’t a rock-ribbed Republican.

As Ukraine becomes more effective at striking Russian refineries, it is increasingly targeting specific refinery units in an effort to maximise the impact of each strike.

Minor damage to a CDU can typically be repaired within one or two weeks. However, repairs to more complex secondary units, particularly those that have suffered serious damage, can take six to eight months on average.

As more units are damaged, replacement times are increasing, with Western sanctions limiting Russia’s access to some equipment suppliers.

https://www.iea.org/commentaries/russian-refining-sector-struggles-amid-intensifying-ukrainian-attacks

Take a look at the diesel export graph about 85% down. The US, China, Other Asia and Other have made up for about as much as Saudi Arabia and Other Middle East have lost.

The amount of Russian export losses (caused by targeted Ukrainian attacks) have not been compensated for.

See the RAC graph “Increases in pump prices since outbreak of 2026 Iran conflict” about 25% down the page:

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/fuel-watch/

Note the second wave of diesel price increases starting in July due to the Ukrainian attacks. Diesel had lost 60% of its March increase.

I believe that threats work, and the ‘Rats like to threaten. What else is the Green Energy Scam of the Left to oil companies, but a threat? When the ‘Rats are in power, they close refineries and cancel government approval of pipelines. The oil companies can read the tea leaves, too.

In fact, all of Corporate America showed itself to be beholden to the ‘Rats during the fake “Biden pResidency”. We should not delude ourselves that we have a free market.
