Demonstrators and riot police clashed in Albania's capital on Wednesday in a second straight day of violence triggered by student protests calling for better university conditions and Prime Minister Edi Rama's resignation.
Over several hours police deployed water cannon and tear gas while demonstrators targeted a government building and shops in Tirana, smashing windows and on at least one occasion setting a building on fire.
Riot police have routinely attempted to push back the crowd of hundreds, also using tear gas, after street violence overnight left 16 people arrested.
Demonstrators threw projectiles, including paving stones and petrol bombs, set fire to bins and used street fencing to form barricades along a central street near the Balkan nation's education ministry, according to AFP journalists.

Another muslim problem I take it. We need to wake up.
The peasants are revolting.
Muzzies being Muzzies
“YES! They sink on ice!”
Wonder how many remember where that came from. Wizard of ID.
Mostly peaceful. Possibly expressing desire for improved school conditions.
I went to Grok. Nothing from the Wizard Of Id. The closest it could come with is from Mel Brooks’ 1981 film History of the World: Part I, where King Louis XVI replies to “The people are revolting” with: “You said it! They stink on ice!”
Originally sparked by a luxury tourism project linked to US President Donald Trump's family in the country's south, the demonstrations have occasionally flared into violence amid ongoing calls for Rama's resignation.
Looks like Europe’s day of reckoning for their foolishness with illegal aliens, may have arrived. Soon, it will be every country in burning.
Majority-muslim nation. Who or what exactly are they suppsedly “protesting?”
As Karl Marx said, 'History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce Islamic Revolution.'
Oh no. Its just ‘students’ unhappy with conditions at school. /s
Seems like a lot of that going around lately.
Sweet Home, Albania
Exactly. It’s always the revolution.

Students. Yup, thats the ticket. Young people looking to expand their educational experience.
It’s like it’s 1848 all over again.
Maybe they’d like Enver Hoxha back.
