Newly released 911 calls capture confusion after Christa Pike's botched execution

On the night of Christa Pike's botched execution, when 911 callers called for medical assistance, there appeared to be some confusion between them and first responders, according to a transcript and audio recording of the calls.

"We've been carrying out an execution tonight. We've administered 10 grams of pentobarbital. The person is not yet deceased. That started approximately 1 hour ago. And we're calling for an ambulance," an individual who called from the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville said, according to a transcript of the first 911 call released by the Metro Nashville Emergency Communications Center.

The call came in at 8:40 p.m. CT on Sept. 30, according to the transcript.

During the call, the dispatcher asked for a code to confirm that the call was verified, but the caller said they didn’t have one. "How do they not have a code?” the dispatcher asked.

Other calls from that night showed Metro Nashville Emergency Communications Center personnel working to confirm the incident, following the initial 911 call.

Nowhere in the story does it state that she was not breathing. In fact, it says the opposite.

The caller reported that someone at the prison's front gate told EMS "to come in because they need the ambulance and that this is an actual thing that's happening, and not someone that's like swatting,"

Now this is the type of calm, cool, professional response that gives me assurance that they don't have a bunch of idiots running the prison.
