A Christian teacher is taking legal action against a school in Sunderland after being sacked for telling students she is pro-life.
Anita Meston, who's been a teacher for 28 years, joined Biddick Academy in Washington in October 2024. During a Year 8 history lesson which focused on the bombing of Dresden in World War II, she asked whether similar moral questions surrounded the current conflict in Palestine. When asked by a pupil, Meston said that she was “pro-Israel” but lamented the deaths of innocent people in Gaza.
Later in the lesson, a different student asked if she was “pro-abortion”, to which she responded that she was “pro-life”.
When asked to elaborate on her position, Meston explained that she held this view because she is a Christian and that she knew women who had had abortions and regretted the decision. A student replied that she knew women who had had abortions and not regretted them, to which Meston responded, “fair enough”.
The following day she was called to a meeting with the school’s headteacher, who told her that a complaint had been made. Meston said she had only shared her personal views in response to a direct question, but following the meeting, her contract was terminated for “sharing personal opinions on political issues with pupils”.
The school’s headteacher said there was a “real concern” that Meston would continue to “cause harm or distress to pupils”.
Meston said that she was “profoundly shocked” at the decision and is suing the school for discriminating against her as a Christian, which she argues is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act.
She said: “I do not believe it is a teacher’s role to impose beliefs unrelated to the lesson in the classroom. I merely acknowledged my students’ questions and provided truthful answers before redirecting

No problem, though,if she invited a drag queen to strip tease for the sensitive little cultura Marxists.
No problem, though, if she led her students out into traffic and told them to stop traffic five times a day while they were forced to worship a black rock in Mecca.
But of course when they teach how a “fetus” is just a glob or soulless cells in biology class, how abortion, contraception, sterilization, and LGBTQIA is all normal, healthy, natural, environmental and good in their equivalent of health class, no one will raise a brow.
44 years ago in school I remember reading (((one))) paragraph on creationism at the begining a textbook, where they claim some people do believe in this, but then having another 20 pages with high gloss color pictures telling about evolution and the entire rest of the biology book 200+ pages tying back into this.
Of course they don’t mention any of the assumptions evolution is based on, or how we do not see evolution in nature (real life - genetic mutation never has a positive outcome and stories like the tree moth and their colors is not really evolution). In fact, all we really do see in nature, is extinction, which we of course blame on ourselves.
I’m not even opposed to the teaching of evolution. But teaching this as a fact, neglecting all alternative ideas, and not mentioning any of the assumptions and shortcomings of this “theory” is what should call “indoctrination.”

Evolution requires going from a less complex to a more complex design in an open system where only probability is possible. If we assume the probability is .99 for an individual step to a more complex design, 10,000 steps over billions of years for a creature becomes .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000224877484981609
Weak people like this never serve God nor even advance humanity.
These are the same people that burned witches at the stake, or stone women to death today in the Middle East and think they are moral for it.
They think they are good people because they jump on ever fad and beat that drum louder that the person to their left and right.
People like that headmaster disgust me. Spineless.
I bet if it were in support of climate change that headmaster would have no problem with the teacher elaborating on her personal feelings and possibly causing distress with some students.
People like that headmaster are just weasels as humans. Best that teacher is gone anyway.
If it’s not that, it’s something else. That teacher was working for a coward that chases fads and wants everyone to bow down to whatever crap is the fad of the day. You cant win with people in leadership like that.
Think about what it must have been like when that Covid nonsense was a big issue working for some PC coward like that headmaster?
These are not people that belong in “leadership” as the lack the strength and character and maturity.
I’m not opposed to teaching evolution. But teach it as a theory and also show its shortcomings.
We talk about critical thinking. But all that really means in today’s vernacular is to attack capitalism and a free market, European culture and America history, American exceptionalism, attack Christian values and doctrine, men, the family unit, marriage. BUT DO NOT DARE question climate change, Covid, abortion, BLM and quotas, LGBTQIA...
This teacher violated that concept. She dared express her opinion and feelings on abortion which are contrary to what is the fad of the day. A big no-no, UNLESS she supported it. Then she can go on a huge diatribe in support Without ever needing to worry about any consequence.
I will speculate that expressing popular doctrines of climate change, Covid, abortion, BLM and LGBTQIA would not constitute “sharing personal opinions on political issues with pupils”.
