Far-right leader George Simion tells POLITICO Romanian president Nicușor Dan will face a campaign to oust him if he keeps refusing a snap poll to end months of deadlock in Bucharest.
Romanian President Nicușor Dan faces demands from allies and adversaries alike to call a snap election, the first in the country’s modern history, if his latest attempt to end five months of political paralysis fails.
The key NATO and EU member has lacked a fully functioning government since the coalition collapsed in May, and lawmakers have rejected a succession of Dan’s prime ministerial nominees.
Political parties are now weighing up whether to support Dan’s latest prime ministerial candidate, the diplomat Luca Niculescu, who must win a confidence vote in parliament within the next nine days to be confirmed in the role.

(r)epublican forms of government are a relatively recent phenomenon in most of Europe. Power has always been from the top down since, well, Augustus Caesar, and the people in the club that we don’t belong to like it that way; they prefer being Plato’s Guardians to having to deal with Aristotle and individual pursuit of eudemonia (”happiness”).
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Romania is a “key NATO and EU member”?
Who knew?
It’s a statement that only makes sense in terms of NATO/EU aggression against Russia given Romania’s geographic position. From the standpoint of internal EU politics and economics they are bit players.
That makes more sense.
“Romania is a “key NATO and EU member”? Who knew?”
Some of us. Romania is huge country, by European standards, and is the Neocon Forward Operating Base in NATO, at least until they can get what’s left of Ukraine in (which is unlikely). If Romania, like most of Eastern Europe (including eastern Germany), is able to become independent of the Neocon Fascists in Brussels, then NATO will have to adapt to life as a DEFENSIVE organization - as it will be next to impossible to use Ukrainian soil to start another war against Russia.
