A strong 7.7 magnitude earthquake rattled Panama on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Jump back, what’s that sound?
Here she comes, full blast and top down
Hot shoe, burning down the avenue
Model citizen, zero discipline

Don’t you know she’s coming home to me?
You’ll lose her in the turn
I’ll get her, ah!

How do you tell the difference between a "strong" 7.7 quake and a regular old Richter 7.7 quake?

Depth, soil types, geography, and construction quality.

Some earthquakes’ energy “carries” a lot further than others.

(The New Madrid Fault Zone is exceptionally bad, in this regard, and apparently prone to multiple very strong shock series.)
