Half of UK wants to rejoin EU and backing it could drive up Labour vote, megapoll finds

Andy Burnham’s personal preference to rejoin the European Union after the next election is supported by almost half of all voters, a new megapoll has found, although cabinet ministers concerned about reopening Brexit divides are privately urging him to proceed with caution.

The poll by the Messina Group (TMG) found that renegotiating the UK’s relationship with the EU could boost Labour’s vote share by as much as seven points, if the prime minister offered a fresh referendum in which he campaigned to re-enter the bloc.

Almost a third of voters said an in-out referendum would be needed first, while more than one in six felt that a general election mandate would be sufficient, and the same proportion thought parliament could make the decision.

The overall findings will bolster the case of those inside Downing Street who want to promise at the next election that Labour would at least negotiate over re-entry, which the prime minister has said he wants to see “in his lifetime”.

Burnham used his first Labour conference speech as leader on Tuesday to announce a review of the options for Britain’s future relationship with Europe, and subsequently added that these should include rejoining entirely.

However, there are nerves among some Labour MPs, especially those with constituencies that voted for Brexit, that even testing out public support for the move would be fraught with political risk and a potential boost to Reform.

Two-thirds of cabinet ministers, including Burnham himself, his first secretary, Louise Haigh, chancellor, John Healey, and foreign secretary, Ed Miliband, represent seats that backed Brexit, and previously said they would respect the 2016 vote. However, public opinion has shifted.

Country votes BREXIT.
Corrupt opposition destroys the economy, floods the country with third Worlders, and let’s the criminals out of prison.
Then blames it all on the BREXIT voters

England is done for

"Andy Burnham’s personal preference to rejoin the European Union after the next election is supported by almost half of all voters"

"Almost half" voted to Remain in the EU back in 2016. What's the story here?

The Guardian -a global joke run by deluded leftist children. OK Labour, call a snap election and see what happens. They know, so they won’t. It is my understanding that they are trying to change the election rules so they can rig the next election.

The Gruniad (sic!) and Burn'em may dream, but it will stop there. Here is what an expert on EU politics write:

Much the same can be said of rejoining the EU. Given that we have a man who has no understanding of the nature of the customs union, I doubt that he has the first idea of what the process entails or that there are no short-cuts to procedures which are set in stone and cannot be varied.

Before even the UK could be considered as a candidate, it would have to go through a series of hoops, not least satisfying the Copenhagen criteria, before the Commission makes its recommendation and the General Affairs Council passes a unanimous vote. The European Council must then endorse the decision – again by unanimity.

All this does is get the applicant to the negotiating table, whence the now candidate country must satisfy the Commission that it has fully aligned its national legislation with the EU’s acquis Communautaire which involves detailed scrutiny broken down into 35 thematic chapters.

It is said that this process could be completed speedily, given the UK’s previous membership, but the EU has moved on since and there are major areas of divergence in areas such as fishing and agriculture, trade, immigration and much else.

The need for full harmonisation is baked into the treaty (Art 49) and there are simply no short-cuts. Any attempt to bypass the provisions would quickly end up in the ECJ or be blocked politically. The painstaking process thus might easily take three or four years – or even longer if there are political obstacles.

With the time taken to secure candidate status, we would almost certainly be looking at a period after the next general election but one, putting an accession vote after 2034, when the Burnham government might not even exist. It could have been replaced by a Reform government riding on the back of anti-EU sentiment.

At that point, all member states must unanimously ratify the accession treaty, as must the UK. France is constitutionally obliged to hold a referendum, and other member states such as Ireland, Holland and Denmark may also be required by their own courts to hold their own. Newer members such as Poland could also insist on referendums.

Given our own history, it is very hard to see how any UK government could ratify an accession treaty without a referendum here and, during any one of these national plebiscites, voters could reject UK membership.

Looking at the timescales and the political volatility in the UK and member states, it is unlikely that the Commission or some of the member states would want to invest the political capital and the huge administrative effort in processing the UK’s entry, only to have the process fail at the last hurdle.

We already had a true MegaPoll, and the people voted for BRExit.
But this was not the result the Guardian wanted, so the Left continually agitate to overturn that outcome.

Recall how Theresa May was allowing the EU to approve things in the background on how it was implemented, they even ridiculed her extreme weakness despite the fact she was serving them against her own people.

Kier Starmer didn’t even bother to pretend loyalty to the UK or its people so they had to replace him. Same for Justin Castro, but now that disgusting installed WEF banker Mark Carney also doesn’t bother to pretend any loyalty to Canada.

The Davos crowd, Chatham House, CFR, Trilateral, Bilderberger globalists have no intention of allowing the UK, NZ, AUS, CA or the USA to remain outside of their global plans and schemes. They intend to stay on track for their agenda-2030 no matter the cost.

They are simply waiting out President Trump and expect to soon be back in the drivers seat here.

What would the people of the UK receive for rejoining the EU?

Let someone TRY to answer that question.

Very similar to the Tea Party movement in the USA.
Infiltrated and destroyed by both the GOP and RATS

Not quite.

37.4% of the total registered electorate (possible voters) in the United Kingdom voted for Brexit in the June 2016 membership referendum

While the “Leave” campaign won 51.9% of the votes cast, voter turnout for the referendum was 72.2% out of an eligible electorate of 46,501,241 registered voters

So you can’t say “the country voted”

Then the flooding of non-EU migrants was done by Boris Johnson and other Brexit leaders as they had to either replace the EU migrants with someone else OR have the British public have fewer services.

Brexit is done. The UK should only be allowed to reopen rejoining negotiations in a generation from now
