At first glance, Magdeburg may seem an unlikely stage for a political upheaval of international significance. But this weekend, the city of only about 244,000 people will be at the center of an election that could leave a far-right party in control of a German state for the first time since World War II.
Magdeburg is the capital of the East German state of Saxony-Anhalt — where the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is hoping to rise to power in Sunday's state election.
Supporters and opponents of right-wing populist movements across Europe and beyond are watching closely to see if the AfD can turn a significant lead in opinion polls into real power.
The latest surveys show the AfD polling at 41%, well ahead of its closest rival, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which stood Friday at 23%.

“far right”
The “National Socialists” were hardly a right wing party, any more than the CCP is.
More lies and propaganda from the Communist Broadcasting System. They are counting on their NPC followers to not know that nazi stood for National Socialist Workers Party.
Ok, here are the major AfD party platforms as I understand it:
* The party calls for tougher border controls, detention of asylum-seekers at borders, removing the constitutional right to asylum, and policies promoting “remigration”—the deportation of non-German origin individuals or asylum seekers back to their home countries.
* Founded initially during the Eurozone crisis, the party advocates for Germany to leave the European Union (”Dexit”) and abolish the euro currency in favor of returning to national monetary sovereignty,
* The AfD denies man-made climate change, opposes the EU Green Deal and wind farms, and instead advocates for maintaining or expanding coal-fired power plants and nuclear energy.
* The party opposes progressive cultural policies, seeking to roll back LGBTQ+ rights, restrict the public and political influence of Islam, and defund or dismantle public broadcasting networks
* The party leadership often adopts a strong pro-Israel posture. It has vocalized support for the Israeli government, particularly post-October 7, and criticized left-wing or state-funded institutions for alleged anti-Israel bias
* The AfD advocates for a radically smaller welfare state, deregulation, and substantial tax cuts. Its economic philosophy draws on traditional post-war German ordoliberalism (the free market), opposing state interventionism
* The party’s foundational manifesto officially calls for the complete withdrawal of all U.S. and allied military forces from German soil, specifically demanding the removal of American nuclear weapons
QUESTION: which of the above policies are “far right” and how far do they differ from the ruling party?
In WWII, far right == Nazis, because Stalin said so.
Metz will just declare any of their victories void, outlaw the winning politician to run again (if not outright arrest and imprison), and declare AfD is a Nazi organization.
Merkel did it when I lived there. The Berlin RAThaus (Reichstag) will do it again.
Socialism. ‘Democratic Socialism.’ ‘National’ Socilism. Communism. All the same filthy turd no matter how many sprinkles one side has.
Sneaky way of saying that AFD is the nazis.
They aren’t “far right” in the sense that earlier German parties were “far right.” Those earlier parties were filled with Nazis and ex-Nazis. AfD isn’t.
Far right? That means they want to bake Jews, right? What else but leftist propaganda should we expect from CBS?
The scum at cBS are saying the AFD is comparable to the Nazis. Ignorant a-holes the Nazis were f’n socialists.
And I see that the Headline Rule is in play.
Almost any time a headline asks a question, about 90% of the time, the hard answer to that headline is “NO”.
AfD has just about as much chance of being allowed to win an election as Le Pen has of being allowed to take any sort of power in France. IOW, absolutely zilch, nada.
The EU/WEF is just far too powerful, and they will employ whatever means they deem necessary, starting with tossing people in jail, and working up from there.
The CDU (Christian Democratic Union [in name only]) has been sitting on their hands regarding immigration and the crime that’s caused by said immigrants. People have finally had it, especially in former East Germany. Berlin is the exception, where the CDU leads over both the SPD (Social Democrats [socialists]) and the AfD.
They have a multi-party state, where votes correlate to seats held in parliamentary houses. In Berlin and the state within which it resides, CDU and SPD combined would overtake the AfD by quite a bit.

My thoughts exactly...
Far right?
far right - Sure! - like in fascist or Nazi, which were leftist not rightist, but whatever.
No, because its not really “far” right.
The party in charge in Germany in WWII was a far left party, the National Socialists.
