In a Nutshell
Autism diagnoses among females increased sharply after 2020, while diagnoses among males stayed flat or declined during the same period.
Women and girls in the study were diagnosed with autism about 3.4 years later, on average, than men and boys.
Researchers believe the overall rise in autism numbers reflects better recognition of previously overlooked groups, especially females and older children, rather than a true jump in how many people have autism.

Autism or “autism” ?
Hypchondriasis to feel special? Don’t they do this with DiD also( Dissociative Identity Disorder)
Big Pharma needs to expand its markets. Men’s Midol is next.
It’s the excuse du jour. By this time next year, maybe it’ll be “faulty genetics”. Or even demonic possession. Gotta stay up on “the latest thing”, dontcha know?
I think it is because the symptoms are generally much less severe in women and they are far better at masking, so they never got diagnosed.
There is, of course, the bandwagon effect. Everyone has something.
We used to just call this severely introverted, but autism has actual weird symptoms like being overly freaked by break in routines or expectations, absolute collapse after being in public, and things like freaking out (as a little kid) by loud noises and whatnot.
Are there even drugs for autism? I don’t think there are.
Me: Doctor I would like a second opinion.
Doctor: She’s ugly too.
Well, in defense of autism there ARE more studies and a broader range for a diagnosis.
But there’s also factious and malingering/attention seeking.
I’m just throwing it out there.
“Gotta stay up on “the latest thing”, dontcha know?”
Fatty liver is very popular right now.
I’m not a biologist.
What does the headline even MEAN?
(/sarc)

Just sayin'.
Women are flocking to the diagnosis.
It’s today’s fibromyalgia
Men cannot be as manipulated into taking drugs as women can

Women were more likely than men to have received any mental health treatment.
A little over one in four women (25.6%) received any mental health treatment in the past 12 months, compared with 14.6% of men
Women were more likely than men to have taken medication for their mental health (21.2% and 11.5%, respectively) and to have received counseling or therapy from a mental health professional (12.1% and 7.9%, respectively) in the past 12 months.
Is it because it’s so popular to be autistic now. And it’s often used as an excuse now for being outright rude?
