A police officer who shot and killed a New Jersey college student in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, faces criminal charges, officials announced.
Upper Pottsgrove Police Corporal Sean Farrell, 58, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, is charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection to the deadly shooting of 22-year-old Glenwood Earl Pysher IV.
The shooting occurred on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, around 12:30 a.m. when Cpl. Farrell responded to a report of a man in the back of a home on Snyder Road.
According to footage from his body worn camera, Cpl. Farrell walked down the driveway with his department-issued firearm drawn. Farrell positioned himself behind a red car in the driveway and spotted a man – later identified as Glenwood Pysher – standing on the patio, officials said.
Cpl. Farrell then yelled, “Police, let me see your hands,” and “Hands up, hands up now, drop to the ground,” according to investigators.
The video shows Pysher clearly raising his hands in the air and walking towards Cpl. Farrell, officials said. Cpl. Farrell then once again yelled for Pysher to “drop to the ground,” according to investigators.

The told him to get down, which he didn't do immediately. Policeman said kid was charging him, but body camera shows otherwise. Police corporal charged with manslaughter.

The kid thought he was at his friends house, and may have thought they were pranking him. It can take a few seconds to understand what is happening even when perfectly sober.

So for officer safety the kid was told to put his hands up & he started to walk to the officer but drunk & the officer had to shot him? So no other recourse just shoot?

Well, the cop is going to say that he felt threatened because the kid was walking towards him. He got charged which likely means the DA wants to prosecute the case. If it goes to trial, a jury likely decides the matter.

My first thought, too. I think that is exactly what happened.

Yep. The kid’s hands were up. He showed no weapon because he had no weapon. And the caller did not report seeing any weapon. How much of a threat was the kid?
This cop would not want me on the jury.

From listening to the DA's statement based upon the cop's recorder, the cop told the victim to drop to the ground twice, and then yelled "Stop, or I'll", and then he shot the victim. When his backup arrived, he told the other cop that the victim had charged him while screaming at him. That's not what's on the video from the cop's camera. It's unusual for DA's in PA to charge cops with a crime. I am surprised.

Body-cam on police encounters is a blessing. The recordings usually reveal that the cops’ actions are correct but on rare instances such as this one they show the cop to be the guilty party.
