Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged continued support for Iran on Tuesday as the United States launched a new round of strikes against Iranian targets, highlighting the increasingly close relationship between Moscow and Tehran as President Donald Trump intensifies military and economic pressure on the Islamic Republic.

The Post reported that Pezeshkian thanked Putin for Russia's support and urged the two countries to work together to counter U.S. sanctions.
Putin said Russia was providing Iran with assistance and essential goods, according to the Post's account of the meeting.
The Kremlin's support for Tehran came as U.S. forces launched a new wave of strikes against Iranian targets Tuesday, raising the prospect of a wider renewal of fighting after a period of relative calm.
The United States launched new airstrikes on Iranian targets around the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reported, after an exchange of fire over the weekend threatened to reignite the broader conflict.

Iran subsequently launched ballistic missiles at U.S. forces stationed in Jordan, Reuters reported.
Trump has warned that Iran would face a significantly stronger U.S. response if Tehran retaliates against the latest strikes.
*** Iran transferred drone technology to Russia that helped Moscow establish domestic production of the weapons, which Russia has used extensively in its war against Ukraine, according to the Post.
Russia, meanwhile, has provided Iran with targeting assistance for retaliatory attacks against U.S. forces and other targets in the Middle East, the Post reported.
Pezeshkian told Putin that Iran and Russia could use organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to counter U.S. sanctions and other unilateral measures.
The Post reported that the broader summit also highlighted growing opposition among Russia, China and other countries to U.S. economic and geopolitical pressure.

Poor strategy by Putin. The ragheads will turn on him in a heartbeat.
Russia, Communist China, Communist North Korea, Communist Cuba, Iran, it’s what they do against the world.
Stalin supported Hitler. Heh heh.
Russia has a long history of fighting Islamic scum. Giving aid to this enemy is not in its long term interest. Putin’s first mistake was giving Europe a rock solid excuse for laundering money back to corrupt politicians.
In 2014 and later, 6 executive orders were put in place to punish Russia about Ukraine, according to the official US Secretary of State site. With this warning: “These actions, in close coordination with our EU and international partners, send a strong message to the Russian government that there are consequences for their actions that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The United States, together with international partners, will continue to stand by the Ukrainian government until Russia abides by its international obligations. The United States is prepared to take additional steps to impose further political and economic costs.”
Those sanctions remind me of the futility of imposing any on Iran. A weak and ineffective substitute for bombing. How much did it terrify Russia and cause it to retreat from Ukraine?
Wait a minute. Wasn’t the Soviet Union filled with muslims? That make Russia alone an easier place to govern, right?
Looks like the SCROT is on again, searching for bad news to post
.
“Russia, meanwhile, has provided Iran with targeting assistance for retaliatory attacks against U.S. forces and other targets in the Middle East”
Oh NO! We’re doomed I tell you.
But I thought Russia was busy somewhere else?
SCROT-os that short for scrotum?
“The Post reported”
The Washington Post, anyone?
So how many FReepers will follow him over to Iranian support?
Putin has the resources to help Iran? I’m pretty sure he’s tied up elsewhere. Which completely justifies the money we’ve sent to Ukraine.
How many FReepers will believe what the Washington Post says!
Why would anyone believe the Washington Post?
But this comes from the Washington Post.
Probably the same ones, when whatever anti Trump drivel the Washington Pist writes meets their favor.
Very misleading headline. Putin did not say anything in this exchange that sounded threatening to me.
What a dumbass - I guess losers support losers. Not content with losing 1 war now he can be part of losing 2 wars. Short people are bad people. Meanwhile the rest of the world is moving on enjoy the suck Russians.
