The Trump administration has directed U.S. embassies and consulates around the world to postpone immigrant visa interviews while consular officers complete training on new public-charge guidance, temporarily stalling applications that have reached the interview stage.
The State Department told diplomatic posts to reschedule immigrant visa interviews until consular officers complete the training on how to evaluate whether an applicant is likely to become a public charge.
A public-charge determination can make an immigrant visa applicant inadmissible under federal immigration law if officials determine the person is likely to become dependent on certain forms of public assistance after arriving in the U.S.
"In early August, we launched a global training initiative at all of our embassies and consulates worldwide. To accommodate this in-depth training, appointments for visa services will be adjusted," a State Department official said in a statement.
The official added that the training is intended to ensure evaluations of visa applicants are made "comprehensively and consistently."
For most diplomatic posts, the training sessions are expected to take place this week.
The State Department did not say when affected applicants would be notified of their rescheduled interview dates.
The scheduling changes have sparked uncertainty among immigrant visa applicants who received emails informing them that their interviews had been canceled without instructions for immediately rescheduling them.

Dinesh D’Souza must be fuming at this...

the focus is on public assistance but I suspect there are other factors in this training.
“ Dinesh D’Souza must be fuming at this...”
What kind of a statement is that
When grandpa immigrated from Denmark in 1899, he was required to have a sponsor here to guarantee he’d not be a burden on public assistance.

”
They had rules. We still do. Trump is enforcing them. The objection is that this is the deems voter base. Their voters don’t know that or they don’t care
But there was no public assistance in 1899. Was there? Certainly not what we know now which is government assistance
These are the bold immigration moves that I would guess a President DeSantis would adopt.
I’m afraid J.D. Vance or Marco Rubio would not be nearly as tough.
You mean like Somalis? (the very ones protected by Tim Walz):
But there was no public assistance in 1899. Was there?
Well now Trump has to break through mass assumption that America is here to bring people in for us to give them public assistance. We’re $40 trillion in debt so not only is that not working, our government officials and voters are economic idiots and or criminals. Trump has to get past that to fix this
We never “needed” any immigrants.
We needed our own families to be large again and grow our population the way we used to.
We can’t do that being inundated.
1899 Assistance:
PNA Polish National Alliance
PRCU Polish Roman Catholic Union
Pre-1932 99% of “welfare” was from voluntary religious and fraternal organizations. FDR - JFK government assistance for both immigrants and citizens was started but compared to what came next, it was small.
LBJ Great Society created the current inefficient welfare state.
Best policy: Do not let to enter, and deport those who
1) Give aid and comfort to terrorists, enemies of the US
2) Murder, rape ... DUI, Drunk n Disorderly
3) Apply for welfare or benefits
4) Lie on visa, naturalization, other documents
Don’t waste money on illegals who work hard, take care of their family, sit beside us in church.
We had eradicated measles. Then foreign mutts came in. Now it's a national crisis.
That was also true in 1962 when we immigrated here.
It probably was true until Ted Kennedy opened the flood gates to the third worlders starting in 1965.
“These are the bold immigration moves that I would guess a President DeSantis would adopt.”
Totally agree. Why DeSantis isn’t being touted more as a strong presidential candidate is beyond me.
Why I voted for Trump.

‘Totally agree. Why DeSantis isn’t being touted more as a strong presidential candidate is beyond me.’
I’ve been hearing for 10 years how much better DeSantis is
It comes with an onslaught of violent temper and accusations
It’s a DeSantis syndrome
Watch
DeSantis turned on Trump. He is untrustworthy
Beyond that, this story has nothing to do with DeSantis
