Democrat Senate Candidate James Talarico Hires Top Staffer From Republican John Cornyn

Texas State Rep. James Talarico (D) has hired a top staffer from the office of the Senate Republican he hopes to replace, a move political commentators viewed as strategically savvy to help him win over independent and crossover GOP voters.

The incumbent Republican, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), lost a viciously contentious primary to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who scored President Donald Trump's endorsement but is widely viewed as a weaker candidate in the general election due to a series of scandals, lawsuits, a messy and contentious divorce, and other controversies.

Talarico, the Democratic nominee, has had a slight lead in a series of recent polls. Past Democrats running statewide in the Lone Star State like former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) have polled better than they performed on Election Day, but numerous commentators have noted Paxton's flaws as a candidate and the downward drag of Trump and the GOP's poor polling on key issues like immigration and the economy to predict that Talarico may in fact have a chance.

Earlier this month, Nate Silver released his updated forecast for the November midterms and rated Texas as “Lean D,” designating it as one of his top picks to flip blue.

Key to Talarico’s path to victory will be not just turning out the Democratic voter base, but peeling away as many independents and Republicans who have soured on Paxton as possible. A Democrat has not won a major statewide race in Texas since singing along to Prince’s “1999” was still about a date in the future.

Talarico’s campaign scored a key hire that may help in their cross-the-aisle outreach. NOTUS reported on Monday that Jacob Smith, one of Cornyn’s staffers, was joining the campaign as a deputy policy director.

RE: A loser hired a loser

Now let’s not be too cocky regarding Talarico. There are two reasons not to be complacent:

1. Texas GOP voters are not too keen on Paxton with all his personal baggage. Turnout could be low.

2. There have been too many blue state migrants to the Lone Star State, many bringing their voting habits with them.

In case you were wondering if Cornball is a leftist loser. The answer is: “His staffers are.” Personnel is policy.

Doesn’t this indicate a more alarming prospect that the RINO GOP itself is helping Talarico win?

Talafreako's personal baggage is worse. Folks will come out to vote for Paxton if only to keep this weirdo out of office.

I estimate only about one third actual votes cast as democrat in any given election are actual real people, live people, US citizens. Two thirds of all democrat votes are fraud or hacked fakes.

Birds of a feather. Funny how they always come out of the closet when they lose.

Ohhh, he owns a lot of houses. I wasn't aware that was a sin.

Regarding his infidelity, I thought "love is love." Now it's not?

Oh, and he was impeached which didn't seem to do him, or Trump, any damage.

If nothing else, Democrats are hypocrites.

This says more about Cornyn than it does about Talerico.

Two thirds of all democrat votes are fraud or hacked fakes.

The latest appellate court ruling allowing Texas to require confirmed ID of all mail-in ballots will help squash that.

He probably brings all Cornyn’s campaign files, which could be advantageous. I don’t like this at all.

Paxton was impeached in order to dirty him up.
When he first ran for office, the media called him everything but a white man.

The libs are scared of him.

Here in Texas we already knew that Cornyn was a backstabbing traitor. Glad this POS is gone.

Absolutely they are, which is why he is the best choice.
