This year has seen a dramatic change in tone in the global conversation about the transatlantic slave trade.
The demand for formal apologies, debt relief and financial compensation from nations and institutions that benefited from slavery has become increasingly forceful.
In March, a resolution was passed at the United Nations recognising slavery as "the greatest crime against humanity" - though the United States voted against the resolution and every European nation abstained from the vote.
The UK, which alongside Portugal dominated the transatlantic slave trade, has consistently rejected the idea of paying reparations, which is perhaps unsurprising given estimates of what Britain "owes" in damages to nations affected run into many trillions of pounds.

To anybody.
There are no living former slaves today, all are dead. There are no living criminals today, all perps are dead.
The only thing transatlantic reparations at this point would do, anywhere, is create new victims out of living/new people who did not own slaves to begin with.
So they are going to go after the Arab Muslims who sold people into slavery in Ghana for centuries? No, instead they target the country that stopped the slave trade? These idiots don’t even understand who is responsible for what.
Once the slave is sold to someone with a ship, it's no longer the Arab at fault here. Now the ship captain is the villain, now the ship captain is in fact a guilty party. If this were a court room, we could get a conviction on this ship captain. And once the ship captain sells the slave(s) over to some plantation in the Caribbean or wherever, now the plantation owner is the villain. If this were a court room, we could get a conviction on this plantation owner.
Pointing at Arabs does not magically transform by abstention plantation owners into saints.
Shouldn’t it be the other way?
Ghana needs to pay for capturing and selling their neighbors into slavery.
It is/was sick on their part.
Islam is still guilty and still sick.
It is just yet another bunch of gib-me-dats wanting to “get whitey.”
Remember boys and girls, WHITEY HAS NUKES, so go back to your mud huts and don’t bother the grownups.
.
Ghana does(using their argument and their rules) indeed owe reparations to Caribbean blacks, blacks in South America, and also African Americans.
If we had smart enough politicians they would come up with a tab and charge the hell out of them.
"You owe us umpteen trillion! We did the math. Oh you want this trillion? How about we call it even then. How about we just drop it and be friends. But if you want to bring this up ever again, how you know that you owe $22 trillion." (or whatever the number.)
Problem is, I never see anybody on our side who truly wants to win this argument.
It is so easy, it would be such an easy win.

Britain made a point of exterminating the slave trade.
If these A-holes want to sue somebody they should send the bill to Mecca, because it was the Muslims who were rounding them up like animals and selling them to the slaver kingdoms of the Ivory Coast who in turn sold them to the Portugese, etc.
Who captured/stole the Africans and sold them?
Do *they* have any responsibility for the slave trade, the African tribes that captured other tribes and sold them into slavery?
Should we demand reparations from the Africans who enabled the slave trade?
He was a black tobacco farmer of the Virginia Colony.
And meanwhile in Ghana:
“An estimated 7,000 to 10,000 children work in the fishing industry on Lake Volta. The nature of their employment has been described as slavery in The Guardian[9] and by the CNN Freedom Project.”

If you nuke Ghana, there would be no one left two guilt people into giving reparations.
They need to talk to the muslims.
Ghana is welcome to have the descendants of anyone taken unwillingly from their country back. I’d even chip in for their transportation to return, even though I’m not descended from anyone who owned or transported slaves.
You aren’t going to get a judgement against a long dead ship owner or a long dead plantation owner in the name of a long dead slave that can be collected upon because not only are those responsible long dead, their shipping businesses and plantations are also defunct and none were state owned enterprises. There isn’t anybody around to sue. Even if you could somehow find someone liable to pay up, then there is the problem of there not being anyone
But assuming there was, are the complainants prepared to pay compensation to all the families whose ancestors fought, worked and died to end slavery? Of course not.
More likely it is just a bunch of white lesbian communists, lol.
Is lake Volta where all that swai frozen fish filets that the grocery stores sell these days are coming from, undercutting US catfish farmers?
Ah, no, all that swai catfish apparently comes from Vietnamese fish farms, my mistake.
