State-owned VEB.RF (Vnesheconombank) has stated that Russia cannot win the economic confrontation with the West as long as Western countries continue to support Ukraine. According to him, the Russian economy is facing rising costs, falling investment, and technological lag, reports The Moscow Times.
The bank's chief economist, Andrei Klepach, said during a session of the Nikitsky Club that sanctions and the Western blockade are increasing the costs of the Russian economy, and that Ukrainian strikes on ports, infrastructure, chemical plants, and oil refineries are causing ever-greater damage to Russia.
Klepach stated that Russia is losing the technological and economic competition not only to the US and China, but, in certain aspects, even to Ukraine.

When you think about it, in a war of attrition both sides usually lose.
WW1 is a good example that.
Andrei Klepach might want to avoid elevators and long staircases.

When you look at Russia’s global influence and prestige, future prospects and the image of it in 2021 versus now, it has really taken a beating, they seem smaller and less significant, less global with a diminished future, they are largely gone in parts of the world since 2021, not only depending on North Korea on the battlefield in Europe and to supply its artillery ammo and until recently Iranian equipment, but it has Red China training it’s army.
Ukraine, which was practically unknown and insignificant in 2021 on the other hand, seems to be growing in stature and attaining a place in the global world with a growing reputation for creativity and courage, and tenacity and war technology, and expertise, and is being sought out or copied by countries in the Middle East and Asia, in Europe and by the United States and even supplying weapons and training to those countries and the United States.

There are no clean hands in this conflict.
- Putin sent tanks across a sovereign border. He started the shooting. That makes him a war criminal.
- Since the fall of the USSR in 1991, NATO has been expanding eastward. Russia interprets that action as being provocative. Just as JFK saw the USSR’s plans for Cuba as being provocative.
Unfortunately, most folks will agree with only one of the above two statements. The other one they’ll excuse away. So nothing will be learned, and we will see more of such conflicts.
It’s difficult to theorize any outcome here that make the Ukraine invasion a net positive for Russia. What can they really get out of any outcome that overcomes the terrible cost? Anything that includes long-term garrisoning of Russian troops in occupied Ukrainian territory would inevitably bring guerrilla warfare and continued drone attacks from the part of Ukraine not occupied. Forever. Can they really exploit mineral wealth and take enough grain from the Ukes to equal more than that? Maybe I’m not seeing something that they are? Or is it just pride and stubbornness keeping the Russians in the fight?

At a meeting, LBJ once said something striking. LBJ said he was going to keep the Vietnam War going - and not because the generals were optimistic of victory (they weren’t).

When did NATO invade any of their neighboring countries? The greatest threat of that has been Russia under Putin.
If you’re honest about it, Russia has always loved their strongmen. Poles too.

Agreed, that is why I thought it must be planned propaganda for whatever reason. He would know better than to say something like that without pooty’s approval.
