Iran Issues List of Demands, Complicating Efforts to Reopen Strait

The head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the United States met certain conditions.

A top Iranian national security official delivered a sweeping set of demands on Saturday that he said the United States must meet before the Strait of Hormuz can reopen to maritime traffic, throwing the fate of the critical trade waterway into question.

Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, issued a statement carried by state media laying out multiple requirements for reopening the strait. He called for the United States to lift its naval blockade and sanctions on Iran, withdraw the U.S. military from around Iran, pay war reparations and release frozen Iranian assets, as well as end attacks on Iran’s allies in the region and threats against the country.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Iran’s demands. A previous cease-fire between Iran and the United States, agreed to in June, had said that sanctions would be fully lifted only in the event of a final deal regarding Iran’s nuclear program. And U.S. officials have said in the past that Iran could only access its frozen funds if it committed to giving up its highly enriched uranium first.

Iran’s stated conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz were that the United States:

The demand package is broad: it ties reopening the waterway not just to maritime arrangements, but to sanctions relief, U.S. military posture, compensation, and treatment of Iran’s regional partners. An IRGC spokesman also said the reopening was not dependent on the Iran–Oman negotiations, signaling that those talks alone would not settle Tehran’s conditions.

I’d be very happy to do all of that under one condition. Iran ceases to breathe air. That’s all. Just that one condition.

Enough with this. Time to blow them out of the water. Time for the West to make demands on them.

“”Iran’s stated conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz were that the United States:

Pay compensation for damage caused by the war.

Unfreeze Iranian funds and other assets held abroad.

End threats against Iran.nytimes””

Trump’s probable response to Iran’s new demands:

No - Lift its naval blockade of Iran.

No - Remove sanctions on Iran.

No - Withdraw U.S. military forces from the area around Iran.

Hell No - Pay compensation for damage caused by the war.

Fat chance-No - Unfreeze Iranian funds and other assets held abroad.

No - Stop attacks on Iran-aligned regional groups.

Stop dreaming-No - End threats against Iran.nytimes

” They aren’t ever going to admit they lost”

For them, survival is victory. And they love death.

How about Americans will have to board an Iranian ship anchored on the shore of the Strait of Hormuz and sign documents of unconditional surrender to Iran.

Iranians saw it on a History rerun documentary about the 1940s.

“Enough with this. Time to blow them out of the water. Time for the West to make demands on them.”

The Iranians have real power. The power that they have is they could not care less about their people. Therefore, they can drag this on endlessly, while claiming victory. The problem we have is that if we wipe out the leadership, the people of Iran will be hurt in the process.

This is a tar baby.

“...Iran–Oman negotiations...”

How would the world react to Denmark and Sweden jointly controlling and charging tolls for passage through the Øresund, the opening to the Baltic? The opening is far smaller and has been important for world trade far longer.

Bombs...bombs...and more bombs are the only answer. Let's do them a favor and arrange for them to meet their virgins.

Yeah, this “complicates” the useless ongoing delays that allow Iran to re-arm.

Negotiations are complicated.

Bombing the Hell out of the Iranian butchers who killed thousands of Americans including the 241 in the barracks in Lebanon in 1983 and tens of thousands of Iranian dissenters this year——
is simple.

The USA doesn’t want Iran to collapse. That would cause chaos in the region and could quickly lead to the fall of the regimes in Iraq, Pakistan, and Saudi. All of which are US allies.

That is the main set of handcuffs on US operations there.

The awkward reality is there is a bipartisan set of many dozens of political leaders in the U.S. who want Iran to win this war.

Marjorie Taylor Green, Tucker, Thomas Massie, Mamdani, Sanders, AOC and more want Iranian victory.

It is amazing we are still winning in such traitorous times.

Idiot. The ball has been in Trump’s court the entire time, he holds all the cards, It’s 2nd down and 1 to go, and all the other sports metaphors I can’t think of.

Demands mean nothing. It’s just more noise to rouse Trump haters, and make it seem like the IRGC is doing something.
