Court confirms that temporary deportation protections for Haitians are no longer in place

A federal judge on Wednesday officially allowed the Trump administration to end temporary deportation protection for hundreds of thousands of Haitians, marking the final step, for now, in a months-long case that made its way to the Supreme Court.

The announcement from US District Judge Ana Reyes comes more than a month after the high court reversed a ruling she made earlier this year that halted the government’s plans to end a program, known as Temporary Protected Status, for Haitians who fled the country in recent years amid political unrest and on the heels of natural disasters.

“The court’s order, which had stayed the effective date of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s Termination of the Designation of Haiti for Temporary Protected Status pending judicial review, is no longer in effect,” Reyes wrote in a brief order.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Yeah, the judge has no authority over the issue.

In other court news:

A federal judge has ruled that major portions of the National Firearms Act are unconstitutional after Congress eliminated certain taxes on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and other covered firearms.

The judge said Congress itself undermined the NFA through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. By reducing the transfer and making tax on most covered firearms to $0, Congress eliminated the Taxing Clause basis for the law, and courts can't substitute the Commerce Clause instead.

The judge permanently blocked enforcement of the challenged NFA provisions only against the plaintiffs, their members, and their customers. Citing the Supreme Court's decision in Trump v. CASA, he refused to issue a nationwide injunction or broader declaratory relief.

But read the ruling...she’s not happy about it and she was trying to extend a hearing date as well because the invaders filed another motion. She’s still trying to run out the clock.

This is not correct. Haiti TPS ended when the Supreme Court mandate issued on July 27. I will give Judge Reyes kudos though for taking the L with grace and not doing something bonkers like many of her colleagues.
