Karoline Leavitt has confirmed that Xi Jinping's September visit to the White House will still happen despite President Donald Trump's speech on Thursday, accusing China of election meddling.
Trump spoke from the East Room last night, delivering a highly anticipated speech about the integrity of the U.S. electoral process, saying it was "catastrophically" short of standards of fairness and trust. "No country can be great without fair and honest elections," Trump said at the White House in an address that began with a familiar rehashing of his favorite campaign boasts, including claims of an unprecedentedly booming economy," he said.
"If there can be no trust, there can be no greatness. Unfortunately, the system we have falls catastrophically short of that standard." The president spread unverified claims that China interfered with the 2020 election, in which he was defeated by President Joe Biden.
However, China on Friday said it has never interfered in U.S. elections and has no interest in doing so, calling on Washington to stop making "groundless accusations."
"The relevant allegations by the U.S. are entirely fabricated and aimed at vilifying China," said China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian. "We have no interest in interfering in US elections and have never done so."
When asked if Trump's accusations would affect President Xi's visit to the U.S. in September, Lin said, "As I just said, we urge the U.S. to stop making an issue of China in its elections and do something conducive to China-U.S. relations."

It’s a complicated business, with many moving parts.
Xi is likely fine with all that Trump said, and now Xi’s regime says what it needs to say in response. For now.
Plus, it’s much more about what Trump and Xi do, rather than anything either/both say.
XI imports 70% of his oil Trump controls world oil supply, I reckon they had a heart-to-heart talk, Xi might have even exchanged the information on the election for a favorable trade deal. THAT famous movie line, its NOT personal it’s just business!!
