A teen murder suspect was found stomped to death in a Mississippi jail — with a harrowing video capturing him limp and bloodied on the floor.

Mielun Butler, 18, was booked in the Hinds County Detention Center on July 1 on a murder charge for the fatal shooting of Melvin Edwards, 32, at the notoriously dangerous Pine Ridge Garden Apartments in Jackson last month.

“I think it’s no secret that some of the violence that we have been witnessing in our community has eventually spilled over into the jail,” Jones said. “We believe there may be a strong connection.”

Butler was the second man arrested and charged in connection with Edwards’ death.

I believe all local jails should provide single occupancy cells for everyone detained there. Young perps are especially vulnerable to violence and abuse by older inmates.

NO. I do not believe murder by fellow criminals is “justice” even for a murderer. If we believe that is justice, then why even have trials, just announce to the rest of the inmates to take care of the perp in their own way. That’s not what a moral society should do.

Problem is, unless prisons/jails are run like Black Dolphin in Russia or Florence in Colorado, prisoners are going to be able to lay hands, or boots, on other prisoners. By definition prisons/jails tend to be full of dangerous people and guards can’t always be within arm’s reach.
