DAPHNE, Ala. — Andrew Gillum, who lost to Ron DeSantis by an extremely slim margin in the 2018 Florida governor’s race and served as Tallahassee’s mayor from 2014-2018, was arrested last week in Alabama on drug charges, Local 10 News learned Tuesday.
According to online jail records, the former politician was arrested Thursday night in Daphne, Alabama on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
He has since been released from jail.
Further details surrounding the 46-year-old’s arrest were not immediately released. Local 10 News has requested a copy of his arrest report from the Daphne Police Department.
Gillum, who ran as a Democrat against DeSantis in the 2018 election, previously made headlines in March 2020 after Miami Beach police said they found him at the Mondrian South Beach Hotel in an “inebriated” state with two other men.
According to a police report, officers found three small clear bags inside the hotel room containing suspected crystal meth, although the men were never charged with a crime.
Gillum released a statement after the 2020 incident, saying he was at a wedding the night before the incident and was drinking, but denied taking any methamphetamines.
Gillum also made headlines in 2023 when he was acquitted of lying to the FBI in a corruption case that also involved illegal use of campaign contributions.
He has not publicly released a statement regarding the latest incident in Alabama, as of Tuesday morning.

I knew people who went to high school with him. according to them, he had the reputation for sex with just about anybody and drugs. Now some people grow and mature. Others remain the same throughout their life.
If you look at Democratic candidates across the board, you often see people who shouldn’t be anywhere close to power...Swalwell, Platner, Talarico come to mind off the top of my head. They’re really, really bad. Yet competing Republicans get held to not only higher standards but “purity” tests on whatever the voter’s hot button issue is. I’d like to suggest that whatever that hot button purity test is, the alternative is almost always worse. I’ve often held my nose while voting because the alternative is worse.

What galls me is we were a few votes removed from having this POS Gov in Fl. DeSantis verses this crumb bun. Item in the local news this AM, DeSantis admin has halved the state debt to 8+Billion over his two terms.
IIRC the common practice in FL was for the Dems in Miami to wait until the GOPs in the panhandle (in the central time zone) posted their election results, and then they would (cheat) submit whatever results were necessary to win statewide elections. In 2018 the panhandle election people refused to submit their results before Miami, so after a few hours of playing chicken the Miami people posted, and the panhandle people posted, DeSantis won fair and square, and the rest is history.

It absolutely incredible how close he came to becoming governor. DeSantis only beat him by 49.59% to 49.19%. Only about 32,000 votes,,,,,unbelievable!.
Lesson learned by Ron DeSantis - take the gloves off early. He was a little too delicate in the way he attacked Gillum, and look what almost happened. Politics is a blood sport, always.
Not a surprise since he was caught drugged out having a gay tryst with some other dude in a hotel room full of drugs.
Could have been a homsexual wedding.
