A majority of Americans disapprove of how President Trump has handled the U.S. conflict with Iran, even as he touts a new agreement to end the war, according to polling data released Thursday.
The Associated Press-NORC survey, which was conducted after the president called off threats to escalate the conflict and shortly before he officially signed a framework agreement with Iran, found that 65 percent of U.S. adults disapprove of Trump’s handling of the issue.
Democrats and independent Americans drove down his approval rating, while only 28 percent of Republican respondents cast a negative view on the president’s job performance on Iran.
Seventy-six percent of independents and 92 percent of Democrats said they disapproved of how Trump has handled the Iranian issue. The new data is consistent with the results from the polling center’s May survey, which found Trump’s disapproval rating on Iran sitting at 64 percent.
Thirty percent of Republican respondents in the new survey expressed discontent with his handling of Iran.
These low approval ratings come as the U.S. and Iran begin a 60-day period of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program and control of the Strait of Hormuz.
A memorandum of understanding with Iran signed by Trump on Wednesday declared a commitment from both sides to find a path toward peace and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil trading channel.

The Hill, aka HUMP.
Yeah...Look at the source....
I can see people say 'this was a bad idea from Trump'.
Americans love a victory. I believe his numbers were pretty decent after Midnight Hammer and the first weeks of Epic Fury.
The “ceasefire” in the second week of april was a mistake.

Iranians must behave for at least 90 days before they can get their money.
No it’s about gas prices.
EASY TO GET THE ANSWERS YOU WANT WHEN YOU ARE CHERRY PICKING THE PEOPLE POLLED
Many of our yellows are yellow for a reason.
No federal elected Republican deserves my vote. They’ll get it anyway since Democrats would be worse.
Sometimes you gain 10 yards. Sometimes you score a touchdown. Sometimes you lose a few yards.
It is not going to work to lie about recent events in the Strait of Hormuz. It is best to face reality, as difficult as that is, and move ahead.
DOGE, FRAUD, reducing spending by reducing WASTE FRAUD ABUSE needs to move from its very slow start to something big by Nov 2026. JD Vance’s future depends on it.
Reducing spending by eliminating the Dept of Ed and 2 dozen of the seemingly hundreds of alphabet agencies is necessary.
Americans have a short attention span. Spring 2026 foreign adventures will be forgotten if cutting spending, low inflation, low gas prices are the story in Sept, Oct, Nov.
That said, the Nov 2026 election depends more on MAGA and Republicans mounting a massive ground game to get out the vote. We lose, not because we are wrong on the issues. We lose because we do not organize our voters to get out and vote.
It was probably because people my age thought he should just bomb them to hell and be finished. 50 years we have been dealing with this.
We lose because we do not organize our voters to get out and vote.
The President had to make some kind of deal to get the oil flowing again.
Keeping the RATs out of power this November is what led to this compromise. It's hard to get things done when Senators supposedly on your side fight your reforms, even with 80% of the base.
50 years we have been dealing with this.
I don’t believe the polls. Especially not one by the Associated Press. These polls results are opinion shaping propaganda.
This is a political pause.
And it’s about control of Congress after the midterms. If the Dems politicize gas prices to take the House or Senate then it will be grandstanding “investigations” all the way down. The last two years of Trump’s Presidency will be neutered.
The American people have a very short attention span. With gas prices a non issue, and after Congress is securely in Rep hands, he can go back to business with Iran and finish the job. They’re sure to violate whatever “agreement” and he’ll have a pretext for unloading on them again.
If you’re Iran, you want the gas prices to stay high so they’ll find a way to gum up Hormuz, keeping gas prices high, in the hope that Trump does get neutered by Iran’s Dem allies.
90% of our population doesn’t even know where iran is on the map.
