War-ending deal is signed by US and Iran, takes effect; commits Israel to terms it opposes
Times of Israel ^

Posted on 06/18/2026 8:07:48 AM PDT by Cronos

Iran gloats it achieved ‘everything’ it wanted; Hormuz to open ‘immediately’ but Tehran says tolls to be charged after 60 days; Netanyahu has distanced himself from deal

the interim deal itself does not resolve any of the war goals declared by the US and Israel on February 28, since it pushes off discussion of Iran’s nuclear program and other core issues to a60-day negotiation process. Israel was not a party to the negotiations on the terms, and Israeli officials have expressed grave concern over them.

...The first clause of the MOU commits the sides “and their allies” to an immediate and permanent end of fighting, and to no restarting of conflict. Israeli officials have said privately that Israel regards such terms as ending any military leverage over Iran and potentially depriving Israel of the capacity to defend itself,

Benjamin Netanyahu has emphasized that Israel is not a signatory to the deal, and has distanced himself from Trump’s decision to sign it. “This agreement was made by the United States, by the president of the United States. And he believes that he can truly combine both the opening of the [Strait of Hormuz] and the cancellation of the nuclear program… And I repeat and say that this is his decision, and he is leading it,” Netanyahu said on Monday.

“Of course, I expressed my view in various conversations,” he said. “On the other hand, I said that we have our own interests – first of all, regarding the nuclear threat. I am committed that there will not be such a threat facing us.”

Iran’s theocratic government remains in place, its stockpile of highly enriched uranium has not been surrendered, its ballistic missile capabilities have not been destroyed and it has not ended its support for terror proxies like Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Prayers for everyone living in Beirut, Lebanon. They are the most vulnerable at the moment.

Treaties are worthless.

We bombed them last year, we bombed them this year. Does anybody want to bet we don’t bomb them next year?

Garbage article, yes the MOU it does not resolve the big issues but does acknowledge the resolution in the end will be the complete surrender of nuclear materials and nuclear weapons. Also starts the straights must remain free and open.

This, like so many LSM articles, on this MOU, are horrible pieces of yellow journalism attempting to write in the worst possible light the actual terms of the MOU.

Irresponsible in the extreme, warmongering hateful reporting

Until and unless the Iranian people can take over their government, it will continue. We now have a year or two to help facilitate that, regime change is required.

I get that there has been a lot of misconception and misdirection coming out of the news media and certain "officials" about Iran and now Lebanon. At this point, I really don't know what to believe.

But there are factions of the GOP voter base who are getting annoyed with what's taking place, especially with the belief that Iran may be getting far more than someone who was expected to unconditionally surrender.

Trump is playing some weird-ass game, which may work in the long run, but seems rather lacking in "victory" or at least "mission accomplished".

Ignore the MOU. Trump had no authority to sell them out.

the worst possible light the actual terms of the MOU

Such as?

How about this duo:

The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran commit to negotiating and achieving the final deal in maximum 60 days extendable with mutual consent.

Immediately upon the signing of this MOU, the United States of America will begin the removal of its naval blockade and any disturbances or impediments against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and will fully end the naval blockade within 30 days.

Please explain how the US leaving before anything is finalized is a good thing?

Trump knew he had to get the Strait open. He said that the Global Oil Reserves Would Have Run Out In 4 Weeks Without Iran Deal and that scenario would have been “bedlam.”

That is totally what this is about...getting the Strait open. My guess is we will hear little more about all of this once that happens.

Removal of the blockade is NOT a removal of the navel assets in the area, also the ending of the blockade is dependent on Iran actually behaving.

Why do you and so many others keep ignoring these facts, something has to give.

We could literally be back to bombing Iran in 60 days should they screw up; nothing was given away in this MOU. In fact, it will just make our actions even more justified if we go back to bombing them should they screw up.

The other option was bringing utter destruction on 80 million civilian Iranians and the deaths of 10’s of thousands of American troops just to humiliate the mullahs, that is evil insanity when other options like this MOU are still available

Trump had no authority

Then why should the US keep funding all this nonsense?

They also said they will never give up nuclear weapons, and they just signed an MOU that says they will.

Ya they lie but that is the point, why are you believing anything the Tehran media says?

A lot of that crap is for image only.

To Lindsay Graham types, is that even a nightmare scenario? To the contrary. IDF soldiers are also expendable to these folks. Clearly.

Israel will rightfully ignore the deal. Hopefully, sane minds in the United States will stop this 14 point Memorandum of Capitulation from being implemented.

Obama famously said he’d have more freedom after the election. He wasn’t wrong. Just wasn’t supposed to say it out loud. Plus, it revealed darker intentions.

President Trump will also have more freedom after the election.

This deal does not solve the Iran problem. It postpones it. But it’s probably the best that can be done before the election.

Iran’s nuclear program AND missile system need to be sent back to the stone age, like the culture of those running them. Further, the Iranians needs to be freed from their leaders-—people we essentially installed. But it must be the Iranian people who liberate themselves. We can only assist so much.

The current deal pauses a war we will eventually win, so that the enemy within can be addressed first. This year’s election is the best first effort to deal with this particular enemy.

A lot of effort has gone into fixing a broken electoral system. Let’s not squander that with a defeatist mindset.

No war was ever won waiving a white flag. Show up and vote. Support the presdident.

FTA-—Israel regards the Trump plan as potentially depriving it of the capacity to “defend itself”.

Best to ignore the Israeli Me-Firstism untruths. Bombing Lebanon
presented as “defense” is part and parcel of “Greater Israel” plotting.

The expansive vision of “Greater Israel” encompasses:
all the Palestinian territories
Jordan
Lebanon
Syria
Egypt (including parts of the Sinai Peninsula)
Iraq
Saudi Arabia (extending toward Medina)

What this means in Israel’s grabbing US foreign aid tax dollars is anybody’s guess.

Since the 1967 War, the idea of “Greater Israel” shifted from an abstract religious vision into an active political program championed by obsessed Zionist factions.

Israeli politicians continually advocate for the formal annexation of the West Bank and actively support the expansion of Israeli settlements into those territories.

Ok, that’s a good answer to that one.

In terms of something having to give, it’s not about wanting to humiliate the Mullahs, it’s recognizing that we are letting things give before we’ve even addressed the primary purpose of the entire military campaign - Iran’s nuclear program.

Had the MOU had something more solid in that regard, it’d be much more palatable. Since it doesn’t it’s perfectly natural (given the stated purpose of the campaign) to condemn relieving any pressure until we have at least accomplished that.
