U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he had spoken to Syria's leader about combatting Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, a day after criticizing Israel for killing too many civilians and not getting the job done.
Asked at a Group of Seven summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, if he had talked to Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa about Hezbollah, Trump nodded and said "yes." Asked if Sharaa was willing to take on the Shi'ite armed group, Trump said he would talk about that later.

"I consider that (Lebanon) the minor war, Iran’s a big one, but we have that little pinprick out there that constantly rears its head, and that's Hezbollah," Trump told reporters on Tuesday on the sidelines of the summit.
Trump has strongly backed Sharaa, a former al Qaeda commander who toppled long-ruling autocrat Bashar al-Assad and has sought to portray himself as a moderate leader trying to unify his war-ravaged nation and end its isolation.
"He's done an amazing job of pulling it together. He's not a Boy Scout, but he's done an amazing job of pulling it together, and he is very good with Hezbollah. Does not like them," Trump said on Tuesday.

Trump needs to get in front of the cameras straight to the American people and explain what the plan is for Iran. Get right to the point with details and put it on record with the American people. We’re leaving the details to the MSM and “unnamed sources”, none of whom are friends of Trump or the US.
I am not convinced that Syria, Yemen, or Lebanon have governments that can protect their sovereignty.

Hezbollah is Iran’s most important terrorist proxy, and is thus a major component of the larger war. Trump should know that.
I know that unless we or Israel is going to fully occupy Syria, which is out of the question, there is ALWAYS going to be Hezbollah in Syria UNLESS Syria takes charge and removes them themselves.
Do you not believe Syria is interested in doing this or that they can’t be trusted? Get in line. But since WE are not going to occupy Syria and since not only is Israel not interested in occupying, but it’s absolutely out of the question, attempting to do this is the only rational path at the moment. And Syria in incentivized because of the last four months.
And, to be clear, Israel is not “doing the job” if the job is removing Hezbollah. If the job is whack-a-mole, yes, they are doing that. And that is all Israel can ever do. How about we actually eliminate Hezbollah?

Israel has been bombing Hezbollah in Syria for decades. And you expect that to change without trying something new, how?
