Hersheypark visitors shielded their children and hid under tables during a wide-scale fight on opening day in April, police said in court documents released Tuesday.
The rollercoaster Skyrush also had to come to an emergency stop during the April 3 series of fights, Derry Township police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause charging Quaneek Williams, 18, with riot, a felony, and other charges including assault and failing to disperse.
Williams, of Lemoyne, was one of 55 people between 12 and 19 years old charged in connection with the brawl. Fifty-two of the defendants are minors and have not been publicly named.
Two other adults, Omar Ibrahim, 19, of Harrisburg, and Jerome Ross III, 18, of Steelton, were charged with theft.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by police gave this account:
Police were dispatched around 6:50 p.m. to the amusement park after receiving a report of a “large fight” near the Trailblazer rollercoaster.
Police said surveillance footage showed two groups of people arguing before a fight broke out near the SooperDooperLooper coaster about five minutes prior.
Families fled with children in strollers or stood over their strollers, shielding their children during the fighting, according to police.
A security guard attempted to break up the fight and said, “Let’s go, you’re all gone,” according to the affidavit.
Police said both groups briefly separated and entered the Overlook Cafe, where the second fight happened minutes later. At times, there were 50 to 60 juveniles in the groups.
To get out of the way of the brawl, some families climbed under tables or fled the food court, according to the affidavit. Court documents said a juvenile stole a drink off a table during the ordeal.
Court documents said the fight moved out of the food court toward the Hershey Triple Tower, three drop towers, where another fight erupted before both groups continued toward the TrailBlazer and Storm Runner coasters, where police were dispatched.
Security escorted one of the groups to a park gate, where some of the juveniles exited.
Those who left walked back toward the main park gate, where another fight broke out.
Police said Williams was seen on video throwing punches and fighting multiple people in different areas of the park.
Officers from Hummelstown, Swatara Township, Lower Swatara Township, Western Lebanon County, North Londonderry Township, as well as Pennsylvania State Police, responded to the scene.
In all Williams was charged one felony and four misdemeanors.
Ibrahim and Ross were charged two misdemeanors, including theft, after police say they transferred park reentry hand stamps so they could get into the park without buying tickets. Police said the theft was worth $90.80, the cost of a one-day pass to Hersheypark.
Preliminary hearings for Williams, Ibrahim and Ross are scheduled for July 7. Online court records show the charges were sent via summons, and none of the three are in custody as of Tuesday.

No one is holding still for the artist to do the painting for the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. Which is still in print. In November it featured the reprint of the Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving family dinner classic cover.

RE: Jane Goodall.
Once in 1972 Scientific American has a serious article with sketches and data, showing similarities of such things as US football players putting their hands down in formation facing the rival team in a game, and the exact positions of apes facing off for territory in Africa against a rival group. Identical. Most aggressive players won more games and most aggressive apes gained and held territory. We are all primates.

We were at Six Flags in St Louis about 35 years ago. It was warmong up for this then. Black and white kids. Rude, insolent, crude. Our children were under 8 then. We left but not without a refund. Went to Branson and had a good time of it.

wow. i had to comment because this article is that rare post reads like a real journalist wrote it—one person, who can write well, giving just the facts like the old days. even though the actors and events aren’t a surprise, this is packed with actionable information for those interested; even the correct usage of words like ‘riot’ that i haven’t heard in years.
kudos to the paper/outlet and the for the byliner Ballantine.
Usual Suspects.
