NC court rules state violated law by allowing nonresidents to vote in federal elections

The Republican National Committee celebrated a recent court ruling Wednesday that determined the North Carolina state board of elections violated the state constitution by allowing non-residents to vote in federal elections.

The Wake County Superior Court sided with the RNC in the ruling Tuesday after the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled last year that people who have never lived in the state cannot vote in state elections.

The state stopped nonresidents from voting in state elections in the wake of the state Supreme Court ruling, but did not change its policies when it came to federal elections.

“This is a clear win for fair and lawful elections,” RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said in a statement. “The court upheld the North Carolina Constitution and made clear that only North Carolina residents can vote in the state. The RNC will keep fighting to ensure only eligible citizens can vote."

It is amazing how hard the state worked to keep these people on rolls and voting in federal elections. I suspect the people were voting in more than one state.

2024. Out of state voters were using a provision for out of state military voters to cast ballots in the state’s elections.

Appeals Court Judge Jefferson Griffin filed multiple protests of his apparent loss by 734 votes in the race for Riggs’ Supreme Court seat.

Griffin initially identified 267 “never residents” who appeared to have cast ballots in the disputed contest. A later court filing suggested the actual number was higher than 500.

From the article:
The court upheld the North Carolina Constitution and made clear that only North Carolina residents can vote in the state. The RNC will keep fighting to ensure only eligible citizens can vote.

More importantly, the RNC ought to realize this case appears to deal only with "residents", not "eligible citizens".

Even more shameful, the RNC seems to ignore the fact many states expend absolutely no effort to prevent non-citizens from voting in federal elections notwithstanding the federal statute that makes such a vote criminal.

(Once again, that and other irregularities was what Jan6 should have been all about)

nice to hear but can’t undo damage done by the illegal votes, who won, how much damage that person did in office, etc

>>many states expend absolutely no effort to prevent non-citizens from voting in federal elections notwithstanding the federal statute that makes such a vote criminal.

That’s partly because the state officials are never charged as conspirators to that election fraud.

I will say it again, the Republican Party should go the way of the Whigs and Know Nothings. I am all for Trump calling for a new convention to form a new political party.

Indeed, at the first level, the R voters in R controlled states clearly need to insist R politicians fulfill their oaths of office.

At a higher level, the R members of the Legislative and Executive branches need to take steps to ensure federal statutes are enforced.

Law enforcement is at the core of our government. That, of course, is one of the reasons the Left strives to defund LE.

I will bet there are folks in his orbit that make such an argument, and he may well be giving it thought after his firsthand experience with how unreliable the current structure is.

There is a real question, however, especially with a RINO litmus test applied, about whether there are enough MAGAs available today to populate a successful R party (at least by election).

It seems likely a national or even global catastrophe is required to give us the space for such an undertaking.

“ I will say it again, the Republican Party should go the way of the Whigs and Know Nothings.”

Correct.

The GOP is dying the same death as the UK Conservative and Union party, and for the same reason.

Maryland doubles its voters with busloads of filthy migrants, DC residents, and VA residents...

And just remember: the CIA background check is exponentially more rigorous than any vetting given to immigrants.

Sorry. Wrong thread. But it is slightly relevant to the checks given to assure voters are citizens and residents of the state.
