Secretary of State Marco Rubio called out “incompetent communists” who are in charge of the Cuban government, as the United States is eyeing possible intervention regarding the island nation just off the coast of Florida.
The country is facing nearly all-day electricity blackouts, as CIA Director John Ratcliffe traveled to Cuba earlier this month to meet with officials. There are also concerns about Cuba possibly wanting to act against the U.S. with military drones, according to Axios.
“Cuba’s in a lot of trouble because, unfortunately for them, it’s run by a bunch of incompetent communists,” Rubio said. “Being a communist is bad, being an incompetent communist is like, the worst.”
He specifically called out the company, Grupo de Administración Empresarial S.A. (GAESA), which the secretary says controls the majority of the country’s economy without any financial benefit to its roughly 10 million people.
“We want something good for the Cuban people, and hopefully there will be a good outcome for them,” he said.
“Having a failed state 90 miles from our shores is a threat to the national security of the United States,” Rubio later added.
“Over three decades later, we are committed to holding those accountable for the murders of four brave Americans: Carlos Costa, Armando Alejandre Jr., Mario de la Peña, and Pablo Morales,” Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement last Wednesday.
“For the first time in nearly 70 years, senior leadership of the Cuban regime has been charged in the United States for alleged acts of violence resulting in the deaths of American citizens,” Blanche continued. “President Trump and this Justice Department are committed to restoring a simple principle: if you kill Americans, we will pursue you. No matter who you are. No matter what title you hold.”

If the ruling honchos had a country to go to and were given safe passage out of Cuba, they just might leave.
A Disneyland in the future.
There is so much potential in Cuba. It would be nice to have the country transformed into a wealthy nation. Everybody would win.
Cuba had the no. 1 economy in the Americas, outside the U.S. at one time.
,,, there was a time when Argentina could claim that as well. Bring Javier Milei in as a consultant on Cuba's future and that island will rock.
“Being a communist is bad, being an incompetent communist is like, the worst.”

Is there any such thing as a competent communist? I didn’t think so.
Went to Cuba, not legally and nobody cared. We stayed at great old hotel, walked around town in daylight, nobody batted an eye. Friend and I deced togo to Chinatown, walked over during daylight but after dark, we couldn’t find a cab and didn’t dare walk.
While trying to find someone who spoke English, a car from our hotel pulled up, “We thought you mightlike a ride”. We all laughed. The Cubans absolutely knew what we were up to every minute we were there.
Gorgeous island, friendly people, safe enough. Resort business should boom under Capitalism.
The imminent fall of the communist regime in Cuba has been claimed since 1961.
Just like Hyman Roth has been dying of the same heart attack for the last twenty years.
Competent Communist?
Depends on what are your goals.
Stalin was quite adept at mass murder.
As are most communists.
Running an economy? Not so much.
At the center of its message was the role that GAESA, the military conglomerate that controls much of the country's economy, has played in funneling most of the country’s foreign revenue to its hotels and businesses.
“Today, Cuba is not controlled by any revolution,” he said. “Cuba is controlled by GAESA, a state within a state that is accountable to no one and hoards the profits of its businesses for the benefit of a small elite.
A 2025 Miami Herald investigation based on secret GAESA financial statements revealed that the conglomerate, owned and operated by the Cuban revolutionary armed forces, reported $18 billion in current assets in March 2024, while the government was cutting spending on healthcare, education and Cubans were enduring shortages of food and medicine that the island’s authorities blamed solely on U.S. sanctions.

“Incompetant communists” is redundant.
The competent communists are the most dangerous.
We were fortunate that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were incompetent.
Competent Communist?
Depends on what are your goals.
Stalin was quite adept at mass murder.
As are most communists.
The only “good” or “evil” for Communists is this: Is it good for the Communist Party? Is it bad for the Communist Party?
Of course, if you are slightly creative in your thinking, those become: “Is it good for me?” and “Is it bad for me?”
All of the time, loudly proclaiming there is no eternity, no soul, and no judgement.
It is a solid recipe for horrible evil.
We could just lift our embargo, if we really cared about “the people”.
Cuba has a lot of economical potential.
If their leaders can be convinced to cooperate with the US, their economy would explode.
Hopefully this will happen soon.
The aid would only benefit those in charge, not the average Cuban.
