Israel's foreign ministry has mocked the activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla online, alleging that injuries were "staged" for the cameras after an activist pictured in a neck brace displayed a "miraculous recovery" when returning home without it. This comes as many activists have returned to their home countries after being detained and deported from Israeli custody. Multiple activists have accused Israeli forces of abuse, torture and even sexual violence and rape whilst they were held in detention.
The provocative posts sparked a rebuttal from the Global Sumud Flotilla online, which said activist Nesrin Zeaiter had "experienced a concussion and over 40 bruises" in custody, and that a neck brace is "standard precautionary protocol for suspected cervical injury."
Despite these posts mocking the activists, Israel's foreign ministry has not directly addressed the wider allegations of abuse against its forces, apart from an Israeli prison spokesperson teling Reuters that the "allegations raised are false and entirely without factual basis."
The flotilla and treatment of the activists onboard have been at the centre of a media storm since last week, when far-right Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir posted a video online of himself taunting the activists as they were detained by Israeli police. It included a clip of himself waving an Israeli flag over the participants as they lay hunched over on the ground, their hands bound with zip-ties. The sharing of this video triggered an immediate backlash from several countries whose citizens were onboard the ship, with France becoming the latest country to ban Ben-Gvir from entry.

The a-holes wrote that headline in such a way as to cause confusion. It makes it sound like the Israeli’s are involved in the rape and torture.

Famed Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has recounted the five harrowing days she spent in Israeli custody earlier this month following the attempt by a humanitarian flotilla to deliver aid to Gaza, according to local media.
Describing Israeli forces “beating, kicking, and threats of being gassed in cages,” the climate activist shared vivid details of her ordeal alongside other Swedish participants in the Global Sumud aid flotilla, which sought to break Israel’s years-long blockade of humanitarian food and medical aid to the Gaza Strip.

“On a ship carrying humanitarian aid, a Brazilian shows up with his d-— swinging and the only thing he manages to do is f-— and get arrested,” Anti Esquerda Esquerda Club, a group that describes itself as criticizing the left from the left, wrote on X Tuesday, pointing the finger at Avila — and referring to the Israeli Navy intercepting the flotilla and taking activists into custody.
Avila, 39, sailed to Gaza in June aboard the 12-person Madleen, where he was pictured in many chummy poses with fellow activist Thunberg — arms around each other’s shoulders and looking gleefully at one another — before they were eventually detained by Israeli forces and deported.
He joined the larger 500-activist Global Sumud Flotilla convoy in September, during which infighting among senior leadership led Thunberg to step down from the steering committee and off the main boat. The activist was then seen dragging her suitcase along a Tunisian dock...
