There are some people around here *still* attacking Thune over Senate recesses saying it is because Thune wants to block Trump nominees, even though, several months ago now, he used the nuclear option and pushed them through.
This is not to praise how the Senate has operated under Thune, but let’s have our criticisms be based on reality rather than fiction.

The President of the Senate should show up one day, change the filibuster rules and replace the Parliamentarian. Bada bing bada boom.
How did he get to the top of the list to replace McConnell? Once I heard Thune was in the running I knew the fix was in. Same gos for Mike Johnson as Speaker.

Can’t the president force Congress closed and make recess appts. during the resulting two-week interim? The Constitution grants the president this authority, but it has never been tried. When Pres. Bush Jr. tried to make recess appts. when the Senate was adjourned, the snake Harry Reid devised a way to prevent it by gaveling Senate open and then immediately closed. I’d like to see Pres. Trump give the forced closure gambit a try.

Unfortunately for us, the President of the Senate (the Vice President) does not have that power. That power belongs to the majority party in the Senate.
And yes, that’s the GOP. But they’d rather do nothing than something.
