We heard a lot from the Democrats and media when the Trump administration launched Operation Epic Fury, arguing that there was no real threat.
Now, there's a story from "60 Minutes" that actually points to how real the threat was because of the concern about the highly enriched uranium (HEU).
It’s believed Iran has enough highly enriched uranium to make at least 10 nuclear bombs. What would it take for the U.S. to secure it? Sunday, 60 Minutes reports on a past covert mission code-named Project Sapphire that could be a blueprint for a similar operation in Iran.… pic.twitter.com/9qYUCnlXQJ— 60 Minutes (@60Minutes) April 19, 2026
It's believed Iran currently has enough HEU to eventually make 10 atomic bombs. But international inspectors have not been allowed to verify Iran's stockpile since last June, when the U.S. and Israel struck three nuclear sites.
60 MINUTES: Iran still has nearly 1,000 pounds of highly-enriched uranium — "enough material, if you enrich it just a little bit more, for 10-11 nuclear bombs."
"Iran has been lying about its nuclear weapons effort for over 20 years now." pic.twitter.com/8StUWPID0R— Rapid Response 47 (@RapidResponse47) April 20, 2026
Dr. Matthew Bunn, a Harvard Kennedy School professor and former White House nuclear advisor, said that almost 1000 pounds would be "enough material, if you enrich it just a little bit more, for 10-11 nuclear bombs."
He also explained how "Iran has been lying about its nuclear weapons effort for over 20 years now." He said their claim that they weren't working on pursuing a weapon was a lie.
That information about the HEU alone would show the huge problem and why Trump acted. It puts paid to the anti-Trump claim, pushed by some on the left, that there was no threat. And the fighting has only revealed even more how unhinged the Iranian regime is, from killing thousands of their own people, to firing missiles and launching drone attacks on their Gulf neighbors. Plus, we learned they may be able to fire missiles farther than previously claimed when they targeted Diego Garcia. So if they have that capability, they could hit U.S. bases in Europe.
Now, the "60 Minutes" story speaks about a prior operation to secure HEU in Kazakhstan. It seemed to be pushing the merits of cooperation to secure it, versus a military operation. That's all well and good if you have a cooperative or trustworthy country, which you don't in Iran. They had on Vice Admiral Robert Harward, who was a deputy commander of U.S. Central Command. He said that if you tried to seize it, it could take weeks and take a lot of personnel on the ground.
But it would be a lot more challenging, one would think, if you just let it go unchecked, didn't deal with the problem, and the unhinged regime with the terrorist proxies used it.
This is why the highly enriched uranium has been the focus of the U.S. negotiations with Iran. You would have to ensure you accounted for it all, and that you had very real monitoring to make sure that they weren't trying to resurrect the program that the regime could not get around. But that would be much easier to determine if the IRGC were no longer in power.
Lots of smoke and mirrors going on these days..
I hope they don’t already have one and chose to use it against US forces over there.

Could it be we have more in common with the Russians than we do the Europeans, including the krauts? Poland and Ukrainw would differ.
The far-left azhos will get their Socialist breadlines but they will also be getting a nuclear Iran to deal with. Go ahead, fascists, keep listening to the RATS’ Better Red Than Dead “media” propaganda.
Only this time around, it wasn't Hillary Clinton who sold it to them.
Despite all the posturing, there are really only two options left: Let Iran keep its influence, oil, and government, or wage a war of conquest to seize the nuclear facilities and change the government.
We’ll know pretty quickly if this is another Colin Powell “they have WMD’s” claim that turned out wrong.
Netanyahu has been going about his normal Prime Minister duties. He has made numerous public appearances in the past month. Israel has been a major part of the sort-of-current war, and perhaps has made more strikes than the U.S, when you include Lebanon and Hezbollah.
Why are you talking about "claims"? Inspectors saw the stockpiles just last June. The only things not known is how much Iran really has, and just how enriched it is.
“The IRGC needs to be zeroed out. Where is Bibi in this mix? He should get out of his foxhole.”

Easy to say, but harder to do when there’s 200,000 of them, and a nearly equal number in the national army.
The Iranians have no options. If they fold to us, they’ll lose any influence they have over ME affairs. Their only choice is to fight with whatever they may have.
I don’t doubt that we will “win,” in the sense of blunt force, but it won’t come cheap in treasure or blood. No embargo and air campaign is going to starve them out, so our people will have to force their way in and find the uranium and anything else we’re worried about.
Underestimating the enemy is a fatal flaw on display here every day.
No. Not needed. Just have to get arms to the people of Iran and degrade the IRGC and their Arab mercenaries enough to allow the citizens to take on the regime without commiting instant suicide.
An interim government is already virtually set up with, as far as I can tell, all non-regime sides in Iran accepting it.
We (and the rest of the world) have absolutely no way to know exactly how much HEU the Iranians have. They lie about everything. We think we know about their missiles, and then we have to say, “Gee it turns out they have missiles that go a lot farther than we thought.” Surprise! Do you really think it will be any different with the bomb material?
If we think they have around 1000 pounds, what’s to say they don’t have more stashed away somewhere else as a fallback? Hell, I would do that if I were them.
I don’t believe a word they say. Not one. Lying liars.
What is to keep the Russians from returning it?
If you haven't noticed, they've been bombing the heck out of Lebanon.

Underestimating this enemy is what pretty much every administration since the establishment of this theocracy have been doing. That's how we got to this point.
If you lived in Israel and were having missiles shot at you from the self-proclaimed "party of God", who want you dead, you would support what Bibi is doing too.
