BUNNELL, Fla. — A Palm Coast man currently campaigning for governor of Florida was arrested Friday morning following a domestic disturbance involving a weapon and threats to kill law enforcement, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Kevin Cichowski, 46, was taken into custody after deputies responded to a residence on Cleveland Court in Palm Coast. Authorities say the emergency dispatch center received a report that Cichowski had battered two elderly victims in the home, striking one with a cane and throwing a cellphone at the other.
One of the victims told dispatchers that Cichowski was armed with a gun and had threatened to kill them and any responding officers.
Deputies arrived to find the victims hiding in a bedroom. Because one of the victims is bedridden, they had been unable to flee the residence. Law enforcement successfully evacuated both victims through a rear lanai before confronting Cichowski, who surrendered without further incident.
“When responding to a situation where a suspect has a weapon and has threatened to kill the victims and law enforcement, it’s critical that we do everything we can to safely de-escalate,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement.
Cichowski faces an array of charges, including:
Two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Two counts of battery on a person 65 or older Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon Tampering with a witness Two counts of robbery by sudden snatching While being transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, Cichowski reportedly made suicidal statements and was placed into protective custody under the Baker Act.
The arrest marks the second major legal issue for the candidate. Cichowski was previously arrested in 2024 on charges of domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment.
Cichowski, who previously ran for mayor of Palm Coast in 2021, is one of several candidates vying for the Florida governorship in the 2026 election. His arrest comes amid a busy week in the race, as fellow candidate and former House Speaker Paul Renner continues his “Affordability Now” statewide tour.

In 2022, Gillum was indicted on 21 felony counts, including wire fraud, conspiracy, and making false statements, for allegedly diverting money raised during the campaign to a company controlled by one of his top advisors.[2][3] The jury found Gillum not guilty on the charge of making false statements and was hung on the remaining counts.[4] In May 2023, federal prosecutors moved to dismiss the remaining charges against Gillum.[5]
