Ilhan Omar’s Connection to Genocide in Somaliland
PJ Media ^ | 03/29/2026 | Catherine Salgado

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) family has a direct connection to genocide in Somaliland. And she herself has proudly fraternized with an architect of that genocide while visiting Somalia.

Vice President JD Vance confirmed this week that evidence definitely implicates Omar in immigration fraud. Afterwards, the Republic of Somaliland offered an extradition deal with the United States, so they could help bring her to justice. And if you don’t know the difference between Somaliland and Somalia, or why the former has a grudge against both Omar and her whole family, prepare to be sickened at the sort of murderous trash we have welcomed into our country over the years. As the Republic of Somaliland informed PJ Media, Omar’s 2022 visit to Somalia was a “reunion with the butcher of Hargeisa.”

In 2024, Omar railed against the Republic of Somaliland for making a deal with Ethiopia, criticizing its ongoing bid for official independence from Somalia and then expressing her dedication to promoting Somalia’s interests while she was in Congress. Or, in other words, she still has a Somalia First agenda. When she visited Somalia in 2022, she was treated as if she were returning royalty, including by Prime Minister Hamza Abde Barre. Why is all of that true? The Republic of Somaliland flagged information for PJ Media that provides an answer.

“We in Republic of Somaliland have carried the scars of genocide for decades. Now, one of your Congresswomen walks boldly into the lion's den... and smiles. Why? Because she's no prey—she's royalty,” the independent government, which is currently in the process of negotiating recognition by the United States, posted.

For those who don’t know the difference between Somaliland and Somalia... Here is a brief explanation:

Somaliland and Somalia are related but not the same political entity. Somalia is the internationally recognized federal state, while Somaliland is a self-declared independent region in the north that no country officially recognizes as sovereign.

Main difference
Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 after the collapse of Somalia’s central government, and it has since operated with its own government, elections, security forces, and currency. Somalia, by contrast, remains the recognized state based in Mogadishu and governs as a federal republic.

How they differ
Status: Somalia is recognized internationally; Somaliland is not.

Government: Somaliland runs its own institutions and elections; Somalia has the internationally recognized national government.

Stability: Somaliland is generally described as more stable and democratic than Somalia, which has faced prolonged conflict and weaker central control.

History: Both were once part of the broader Somali colonial and postcolonial story, but Somaliland was formerly British Somaliland while southern Somalia was Italian Somaliland.

Short version: Somalia is the country recognized by the world, while Somaliland is a breakaway region that functions like a country but is not formally recognized.

Somaliland is the part of Somalia Israel recognized as an independent nation in recent months.

The UAE was active up there no doubt as an Israeli surrogate to stir things us.

President Trump makes a lot of comments about Somalia too but that’s part of the campaign against Ilhan Omar IMHO.

Thank you for posting. One note ~~ in January 2026, the Republic of Somaliland was recognized as a sovereign state by Israel.

Thanks.

Now help us discern any interface or entanglement between decent, honest members of Congress who serve the public and Omar who lets the public serve her, her homeland’s interests and her rapidly increasing personal wealth. We have trouble finding any.

Admittedly, I didn’t receive any learing center education.

Ilhan Omar’s Father and the Isaaq Genocide: The Truth Revealed

https://somalilandchronicle.com/2025/07/25/ilhan-omars-father-and-the-isaaq-genocide-the-truth-revealed/

Between 1981 and 1991, the Somali military in which Colonel Nur Omar Mohamed, Ilhan Omar’s father, served as a senior officer executed a brutal and systematic campaign of genocide targeting the Isaaq people of the modern day Republic of Somaliland.

This dark chapter in Africa’s history, which was known as the Isaaq Genocide, was a merciless military campaign that resulted in the killing of over 200,000 Isaaq civilians.

It also involved widespread forced displacement, scorched‑earth destruction of the second and third largest cities (Hargeisa and Burao), aerial bombardement of almost every other single city, town and village in Somaliland, and two decades of large‑scale red-terror style tactics against the civilian population of Somaliland.

Israel is only country in earth that recognizes “Somaliland”. Any idea why we don’t? Or anyone know more about this mythical country? Do they use the Minnesota State flag?

It's not mythical ~~ see the map below, next to Ethiopia.

The current Republic of Somaliland, independent since 1991, is the area that was called British Somaliland (red area on map), and it runs it's own government. The southern Somalia area was called Italian Somaliland. It's capital is now Mogadishu.

They are different cultures that speak different dialects of Somali.

From what I've read about Somaliland (its Wikipedia page and related sources), it's got a reasonable government, is relatively stable and productive, and mostly just wants to be left alone to continue improving conditions for its citizens, who were devastated in the earlier genocide conducted by Somalia.

By contrast, Somalia is an unstable horror show, culturally insane, and there is no stability and no useful government.

I suspect the only reason that the US has not recognized Somaliland is that such a large number of Somalian Somalis have migrated to the US, that we are afraid they'll freak out. Or perhaps it's a thing like China and Taiwan where we can't recognize both at once.

Israel has done the right thing; we should too, IMO.

Ilhan Omar is a poster child for our broken immigration system and the corruption of our well intention, mostly Cod War era “refugee” resentment laws intended to protect oppressed from the oppressors.

A huge number of the people coming into the United States are selected and sponsored by UN and Progressive NGOs funded by UN and USAID money.

The UN and NGOs have flipped the script preferentially select the members of the oppressor, criminal cartel, revolutionary or terrorist classes from these countries, miscast these violent oppressors and criminals as the oppressed and then import them to the United States as “refugees”

So President Trump is underrating the situation when he says they are not sending their best because they are often intentionally recruiting and sending their worst and most dangerous to America .

With the Somalis, the NGOS are sanitizing the the histories of some of the worst of the worst from Somalia and are then sponsoring them as refugees to become citizens of the United States.

If you remember the Latin American caravans who were mass bum rushing out Southern Borders during the first Trump Administration, they were being actively recruited and trafficked into the US by a wide range of well organized NGOs and charities, most of whom were financed by USAID or US supplied UN funding.

When the American media would interview the illegal aliens in the caravans a continuing theme was “ we are coming to America for a better life. We understand that the America is a very unfair and racist place AND WE ARE BEING SENT THERE TO CHANGE THAT”

Based on a January 2024 speech delivered in Somali, Rep. Ilhan Omar was accused by critics of saying she represents Somalia’s interests in Congress, though she and her defenders maintain these accusations are based on an inaccurate, out-of-context translation. (Minnesota Reformer)

Following a January 27, 2024, speech to Somali supporters in Minneapolis, critics alleged that a translation showed Omar saying she would protect Somalia’s interests and that the US government would do what “we [Somalis] want”. Congress.gov

Independent translations, including one by a certified court interpreter, suggested the initial widely shared translation was inaccurate. According to the Minnesota Reformer and other reports, she was discussing her role in protecting Somali interests—aligned with U.S. policy—not pledging primary allegiance. Minnesota Reformer

Rep. Omar stated the attacks were “manufactured” and “rooted in xenophobia and Islamophobia,” affirming that she works to represent her constituents in Minnesota. Star Tribune

The speech concerned a maritime agreement between Ethiopia and the self-declared republic of Somaliland, which Somalia considers a violation of its sovereignty. Her position that Somalia should remain unified is consistent with official United States foreign policy.

While opponents have used the mistranslated video to accuse her of placing Somalia’s interests first, she has not explicitly said she represents the country of Somalia rather than her American constituents.

Colonel Nur Omar Mohamed, Ilhan Omar’s father, served as a senior officer
__________

Somalia was a Communist dictatorship 26 June 1976 – 26 January 1991 run by Mohamad Siad Barre of Somali Revolutionary Socialist Party., installed and supported by Soviet Union.
They tried to run Somalia like Castro Cuba.
When the regime collapsed in 1991, Somalia disintegrated in several states of which Somaliland and Puntland are still existing.

Siad Barre was running a genocidal, oppressive socialist regime, and nobody associated with that regime should ever be allowed to the US.

Ilhan Omar’s husband ‘got $635k in Covid bailout
funds for his firm on top of millions from her campaign’

ILHAN Omar’s husband received $635k in Covid bailout funds for his firm, on top of over $1million from the Democrat’s campaign, records show. Documents reveal Tim Mynett, co-founder of E Street Group, was given over half a million dollars in emergency coronavirus aid, as the company was paid millions by his Minnesota rep wife’s political campaign.

A Covid bailout tracker shows Washington DC-based E Street Group LLC was given $134,000 in PPP bailout, along with $500,000 in Economic Injury Disaster loans.

Records from the Federal Election Commission show that the company also continued to receive payouts for tens of thousands of dollars from Omar’s campaign after receiving the aid.Since February of last year, records from the Federal Election Commission show that Omar’s campaign has paid more than $2.78million to E Street Group.

Since March 2020 alone, Omar’s campaign has paid over $2.1million to her husband’s consulting firm, FEC records show. E Street Group LLC did not immediately respond to The Sun’s request for comment.

Omar and Mynett wed in March of this year – after the rep previously denied dating the consultant. Days after the couple wed, Omar took to Twitter to defend her campaign’s paying her husband’s company, as she insisted it was not a conflict of interest.

“My relationship with Tim began long after this work started. We consulted with a top FEC campaign attorney to ensure there were no possible legal issues with our relationship,” Omar tweeted. One payment in August totaled over $129,000, while another dating back to July was over $289,000. The largest payment came on July 7, when her campaign paid E Street Group $404,338.75, FEC records show.

In mid-November of this year, Omar pledged that she was cutting ties with her husband’s company, Fox News reported. She said in a November 15 email that she was ending her relationship with the firm to halt questions about the relationship with her campaign, Fox reported.

The most recent payment shown in records through the FEC came on October 2, just a month before the election.
