Well Pakistan is likely to do things even the Russians may have felt wrong, so I could see it happening.
Arab on Arab violence is anything but humane and often is not limited to soldiers.

The Soviets won their battles despite the USA propping up the Mujahieen. They only withdrew when the USSR collapsed
The British won against Afghanistan in the 1800s
The Mughals won against the Afghans in the 1600s
The Iranians won against the Afghans in the 1700s
The Arabs conquered the Afghans in the 8th century
The Kushans conquered the Afghans in the 3rd century
Alexander and his Macedonians conquered the Afghans in the 3rd century BC
Cyrus the Great and the Achaemenid Persians conquered the Afghans in the 6th century BC
Afghanistan is not this ‘unconquerable land’

you got that right. Not only are both Mohammedans, but they are both Sunni Moslems!
It would not surprise me at all. Islamists in power treat their muslim enemies with full hate and support of the populace in ways we cannot do in the West.
All they have to do is effectively leverage the content in the Koran to paint their enemies as apostates (Shia vs. Sunni, etc) and they can do anything they please to them including nuking them.
We don’t succeed because we still possess true morality to at least some degree.
Pakistan or Afghanistan could succeed because they possess no moral value or twisted ones.
“All the others” don’t seem to be occupying Afghanistan at this time.

We have shed far too much of our nations lifeblood over these islamic fools.
