She is right to say what she said, but its worse than a free speech issue. The authoritarian mob is criticizing participants for refusing to make the “correct” political statements. People are being attacked for being silent.

The population of Gaza INCREASED since they started the October 7 war. Lots of babies conceived and born.

In part because Israel supplied water, electricity, and 4000+ calories per person, per day to Gaza. Plus all sorts of other aid.

For such a smart and allegedly nefarious people, we are literally the worst country in the world at genocide. Absolutely suck at it.

Bully for her. Twice. Once for there being no "genocide" in Gaza, and once again for "filmmakers should stay out of politics."

The game of the worldwide Left -- recalling those mandatory "struggle sessions of the Communists -- is to try to bully agreement, when people prefer not to.

That Hamas militants are being killed is a sign of war, not genocide. As war, it should be pursued. As a genocide, it's sure not a very good one, for having spared so many civilians. And as a war, it sure is pissing off the same worldwide Left and militant Islam.

Filmmakers are perfectly free to speak out on whatever they want. So do Joe the Mechanic and the guy stocking shelves at Safeway.

On their own time and on their own dime.

One of the places protest culture has gone off the rails is the idea that the way to make a statement is to hijack someone else’s event and conscript all attendees into an unwilling audience.

The Berlinale is a big deal in German and European cinema. German cinema has a long and distinguished track record. Let it do its thing without the usual idiots throwing tantrums.

Wim Wenders is one of those great directors who have never won an Oscar.

Francis Coppola used to own a burger joint in North Beach that he named Wim’s after Wenders. The food was quite good.

There are two competing streams with this issue right now. The first is an ever increasing Jewish hate pushed mainly by the left. The other is the calls for censorship from official Jewish groups. I think those groups are wrong to restrict free speech.
