1) 2005 was the year that began a hugely sharp increase in the estimates of Venezuela oil reserves, about the time Chavez got all his ministers to bend the knee and do what they were told, and also at the time he was appealing to Russia and China about the worthiness of support.
There was no, repeat, no establishment of an exploration budget in that time frame. These were not new discoveries.
2) Iran/Iraq still have on their books a requirement that if one declares an increase in oil reserves, the other must do the same. All regardless of exploration budget or discoveries. This because OPEC rules allocate production quota according to reserves.
3) The Orinoco super heavy is NOT the source of what ships at about 900K/year right now. It is too difficult to extract, for anyone. There were always multiple fields, and that Orinoco super heavy WAS the source of reserves declaration.
4) Those folks who want to sneer at China’s demands can lean back and consider what this will look like — Until the US changes its behavior and joins the moral normalcies of the majority of Earth’s population encompassed by BRICS, we cannot in good faith allow any shipments of neodymium magnets to them or to anyone who might trans-ship them.
10-15 yrs before we can produce our own.
