Widening demonstrations sparked by Iran’s ailing economy spread Thursday into the Islamic Republic’s rural provinces, with at least seven people being killed in the first fatalities reported among security forces and protesters, authorities said.
The deaths may mark the start of a heavier-handed response by Iran’s theocracy over the demonstrations, which have slowed in the capital, Tehran, but expanded elsewhere. The fatalities, two on Wednesday and five on Thursday, occurred in four cities, largely home to Iran’s Lur ethnic group.
The protests have become the biggest in Iran since 2022, when the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody triggered nationwide demonstrations. However, the demonstrations have yet to be countrywide and have not been as intense as those surrounding the death of Amini, who was detained over not wearing her hijab, or headscarf, to the liking of authorities.
The most-intense violence appeared to strike Azna, a city in Iran’s Lorestan province, some 300 kilometers (185 miles) southwest of Tehran. There, online videos purported to show objects in the street ablaze and gunfire echoing as people shouted: “Shameless! Shameless!”

After that I would tune into the PBD Podcast. Patrick was also born in Iran. So, he is following the events pretty close.
I assume Al Jazzera also has had reports. I started tuning into their streaming channel during the Gaza war. Mostly because they actually had people on the ground broadcasting from the war zone. Obviously, you have to take what they say as a “consider the source”, but unlike most other MSM anything that happens in the middle east effects them (Qatar) directly.
Unlike the Gulf Wars when CNN and others actually had correspondents on the ground in Baghdad, the MSM does not seem to have people in the area except MAYBE Jerusalem.
I’ve seen videos circulating on Telegram and X, showing several mullahs changing into western clothes and booking it out of town.
They know if the regime falls they might suffer the fate of Mussolini.
A question is, would the Russians intervene on behalf of the Mullahs?
The U.S. backed Islamic fundamentalists in Afghanistan to undermine the Soviets.
Israel backed Islamic fundamentalist Hamas to undermine the PLO.
Seems everyone is always weaponizing Islamic fundamentalists against their opponents. And then it backfires on them.
The country is overwhelmingly Shiite and overwhelmingly supports the leadership of Shia Islam. That’s just the way it is and it’s not going to change.
These stories are all overhyped. Important question . . . who is funding these stories. Answer, any Sunni funding source that hates Shia and always has.
There are examples like that all through history.
If you want to know how it really is in Iran I recommend watching some broadcasts on Tousi TV
He is an Iranian expat living in London whose father is still in Tehran. His commentary is great and he has been showing live (and recorded) footage of what's going on there now several times a day.
It was 100% bona fide Grade A fake news then too. It was all there was then but I quit watching that hogwash before the '90s even rolled around.
If Iran hits Israel with chem or bio weapons, the mullahs will likely be eating Israeli nukes...
