Democrat Gary Clemons, a South Louisville union leader and U.S. Army veteran, won Kentucky’s vacant Senate District 37 seat on Tuesday in a roughly 47.5‑point landslide, taking 72.6 percent of the vote to Republican Calvin Leach’s 25.1 percent, according to unofficial Jefferson County results.

“State Democrats are overperforming and winning special elections across every part of the country,” said Heather Williams, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) president, in a statement shared with Newsweek. “Momentum is on our side as voters turn away from MAGA Republicans and back state Democrats who are fighting to lower costs.”

Core blue city, core blue district. That’s how it’s designed.

Are people really this stupid? Yes. The rats caused the price increases and will only make them worse but they keep winning these elections.

Your assessment does not fit the agenda of those who wish to foster an impression that conservatism is an a freefall due to Donald Trump.

Day, after day, here on Free Republic (and throughout the country) Isee people posting things that are meant to demoralize and divide conservatives, posted here specifically for that purpose.

Not saying that this article is one of those, but it’s usually the same people day after day who do it.

state Democrats who are fighting to lower costs

*************

So they claim. But what were they doing during the Biden administration when prices were soaring?

It’s a 57% Democrat district, about 30% Republican.

So the Democrats are either more motivated to vote or Republicans are staying home.

In '24, the Democrat won this district by 21 points. 41,584 voters voted in that election.

In this '25 special election only 5,170 voters voted.

To whitehat: it’s not sustainable for anything meaningful to move forward in our country so long as every major US city and coast is controlled by the Left. Your cows graze in red areas? That’s lovely. But even population centers in TX and FL are purple at best.

To rlmorel: if that’s your attitude then you have a problem with the very individuals who worked harder than anyone on the ground to get Trump elected in places like Pennsylvania. Scott Presler comes to mind, brought the whole Amish community out…He’s been sounding the alarm bells since early last year when Wisconsin and PA held special elections for their courts.

Been blue a long time and the dem wins big every time, usually 60/40 but there was one that ran as the unopposed incumbent so that would be 100/0

MSM just makes something out of nothing to kill conservative hopes. Add grumpy uninformed conservatives saying we’re doomed and it’s no wonder we suck at turning out to vote

It means nothing. Louisville / Jefferson County is so blue that it’s a joke to even hold an election.

God could run as a Republican and he couldn’t get elected there

Don’t get upset this is just psychological warfare.

“This is disgusting in a red state like Kentucky.”

Red state but a D+8 district. The same Republican candidate who got stomped yesterday received about 40% in 2024, which is pretty much normal for a Republican in that district — and that 40% was against an incumbent Democrat, not some unknown.

Of course Democrat motivation is sky-high right now and GOP motivation is non-existent, but those things will surely change significantly in the next 10 1/2 months.
