A Terrible and Avoidable Tragedy in D.C.

Before an Afghan refugee, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, yesterday shot and seriously injured two National Guard members who had been deployed by President Donald Trump to Washington, D.C., military commanders had warned that their deployment represented an easy “target of opportunity” for grievance-based violence. The troops, deployed in an effort to reduce crime, are untrained in law enforcement; their days are spent cleaning up trash and walking the streets in uniform. Commanders, in a memo that was included in litigation challenging the high-visibility mission in D.C., argued that this could put them in danger. The Justice Department countered that the risk was merely “speculative.” It wasn’t. There are costs to performatively deploying members of the military—one of which is the risk of endangering them.

Lakanwal’s exact motives are still unknown; he worked for the CIA during the Afghan War. He is now in custody but apparently refusing to speak. Trump offered a predictable response to the shooting: pausing immigration for anyone from Afghanistan, a move that conveniently ignored how Lakanwal had gotten to the United States. He came as part of Operation Allies Welcome, admitted for his assistance to U.S. troops, and was reportedly granted asylum status after vetting by the Trump administration earlier this year.

Trump yesterday also ordered additional troops to D.C., on the theory that more troops are always better than fewer ones, even though a federal judge had ruled just last week that the entire deployment would have to be halted because it was probably illegal.

More troops is not the answer. The National Guard has been deployed as part of the White House’s political attacks on cities run by Democrats, and the Guard members are vulnerable because politics is...

Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that "cities run by Democrats" are in a state of complete anarcho-tyranny.

Just how stupid is this author? No amount of training can protect someone from an urban ambush.

An earthquake is a “tragedy”.

A brutal murder is a brutal murder.

The author cares nothing about honesty or knowledge...Only cares about trying to make President Trump look bad...

I thought it would be an article about allowing unvetted foreigners into our country.

But got “my TDS” instead.

Blaming the rape victim for dressing "like that".

Maybe the problem is the criminal and not the victim? Hmmmm?

After reading the first sentence, I stopped. Just another “Trump’s fault” screed. Have they blamed the gun, yet, or is it all on POTUS?

Crime in DC has fallen significantly since the Guard was deployed here. Even Black, DEMOCRAT Mayor Bowser has publicly noted this.

I don’t think the private citizens who live in the District and know the dangers are complaining about the Guard.

This shooting happened because of the sloppiness of Joe Biden and his administration, and the thoughtless, irresponsible way they vacated Afghanistan.

I read the entire MSN article waiting to see if the tragedy was avoidable by actually vetting and/or deporting these illegals. I waited in vain. Silly me.

Motive...he's a Muslim...Kill all the Christians and Jews. Lucky he just had a hand gun.

But I'd bet the sink that he has a buddy. Reminds me of the Boston Marathon bombings.

“Just how stupid is this author? No amount of training can protect someone from an urban ambush.”

We must remember that the majority of modern journalists” now compete strongly for the title of “Least educated, most inept, and most historically illiterate group in the “left side of the Bell Curve” set.

“He came as part of Operation Allies Welcome, admitted for his assistance to U.S. troops, and was reportedly granted asylum status after vetting by the Trump administration earlier this year.”

This clown cites a slogan, Operation Allies Welcome, as if it were more than just a slogan.

This INDIVIDUAL, if vetted, must have a paper trail. WHO vetted him? WHAT information was needed as part of vetting? WHEN did the vetting take place?

If all this information exists WE should see it.

The reason why the National Guard was deployed to DC is because young black men keep on murdering other young black men..its the freakin murder capital of the United States yet these commies dont care, black lives dont matter to those morons except when they are being killed by cops. What these commies are really saying is this “If only Trump would do what WE want, we wouldnt have to send our fools to kill them” they said the same thing about Charlie Kirk “Hey if he didnt have those thoughts we wouldnt have had to kill him”

Is anyone actually certain this pig-dog going by the name “Rahmanullah Lakanwal” is actually the person by that name who worked for the USA in Afghanistan?

The reason I am asking that quesiton is it is possible that the Taliban murdered the guy who worked for us in Afghanistan and substituted an sleeper in his place as the Biden administration was simply filling up aircraft to fly people who worked for us out of Afghanistan.

The sad irony is that these young heroes sacrificed everything to protect law abiding citizens from the evil that Democrats willfully created.

What a load of BS.

We should not be spending $1 trillion/year merely to prepare to fight a war that may never come.

The invaders are already here. Most invaders throughout most of history didn’t come bearing rifles and pistols.

Most shore-based members of the US military should spend about 80% of their time repairing and maintaining military equipment, guarding bases, building affordable housing or doing law enforcement.

I have never seen a Klansman. A prohibition meant to stop interference with the work of the Klu Klux Klan is outdated.
