The US House censured Representative Al Green in March 2025 for disrupting President Trump’s address to Congress. The censure passed with a 224-198 vote after Green shouted at the President and was escorted from the chamber, with 10 Democrats joining Republicans in the vote.

Green was censured for disrupting President Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress by shouting that Trump did not have a mandate and refusing to take his seat.

The House of Representatives voted 224-198 to pass the censure resolution.

A censure is a formal reprimand and a public expression of disapproval from the House. It does not involve stripping the member of their position but can lead to reputational damage. Following the vote, Green was required to appear on the House floor to hear the resolution read.
