Aircraft carriers, and their attendant surface ships, make excellent sources of surveillance as well as a potent warning to not FAFO.
But as usual this article is a bunch of mindless posturing and “maybes” without an real useful information

Because we are taking out their drug boats.
Because we are not total idiots we expect retaliation.
The Ford is there as gentle reminder to the governments protecting the drug scum that they might want to reconsider such a move.
Ours is bigger and it works.

Some people look at an aircraft carrier and ask
why? Others look at an aircraft carrier and ask why not?

There have to be ports (probably small and camouflaged) to build, store and launch these drug boats, and warehouses nearby to store and accumulate cocaine for shipment.
Air strikes on these facilities would be a massive escalation of the drug war, but what other options are there?
Do nothing?
Put boots on the ground?
Maybe the threat will be enough for the Venezuelan gov't to take them out themselves.

China, Russia, Iran, Hezbollah all have assisted our enemies (foreign and domestic).
Keeping Maduro in power means ease of access for our enemies.
One poster on this thread said: “Because he can.”
The world has witnessed President Trump’s willingness to use appropriate force. He would much rather use economic power when possible. He will also use very powerful non-nuclear weapons. Just ask Iran.
To: SeekAndFind
Trump would like nothing better than to have Maduro make a monumental mistake and attack an American ship or take American hostages. He would then implement very quickly a plan to remove him and his key supporters. Doubt an identifiable, uniformed American would set foot in Venezuela.

While they’re out there, maybe they can also do something about the thousands of illegal Chicom fishing vessels plundering the oceans…

attack an American ship Firing on one of our aircraft would be a big mistake. Firing on one of our ships would be even worse. Is Maduro dumb enough/crazy enough to try it?

Recently a large oil deposit was discovered under Guyana, and Maduro is claiming more than half of that country so he can get it. I have a feeling our naval presence is as much about oil as it is about drugs.

US policy is pretty simple.
No touchee our boats.
We get cranky when that happens.

I had a friend who worked for Chevron in Venezuela, not that long ago - until Maduro - and then he and his co-workers had to abruptly evacuate and return to the US.
