The only thing I've ever seen that featured Henry Fonda was Grapes of Wrath. It's a great,great film and he was excellent in it. In 1947 nobody outside Wisconsin knew who Joe McCarthy was. He had just been elected to the Senate in November 1946. He became famous suddenly in Feb. 1950. Of course the liberals were opposing any attempts to go after Communists before that.

In announcing the revival of the group, Ms. Fonda and the other new members recalled the “dark time when the federal government repressed and persecuted American citizens for their political beliefs” and warned that “those forces have returned.”

These are the same people who openly attacked people for what they claimed was "hate speech". They also claimed that they were justified in attacking people who "triggered them" with political beliefs. Even asking questions was persecuted by these free thinkers.
