Nigel Farage has lambasted the “BritCard” scheme as fundamentally un-British. Farage – whose Reform UK party ironically helped spur Starmer’s tougher stance – argues the digital IDs are “an anti-British card” that would give the state “more power to control the British people” while “do[ing] nothing to combat illegal immigration” [50]. He and others claim the government is trampling civil liberties under the pretext of border control. As one Reform UK spokesperson scoffed, “those already breaking immigration law will [not] suddenly comply” with an ID requirement [51]. In their view, the policy is political theater – “a cynical ploy” to feign action on immigration, as Reform puts it [52], at the cost of ordinary people’s privacy.

If the left wants it then you know it is equivalent to a boot on your neck.

Physical paper is obsolete.

The ID in question is digital

Youth is digital

That’s the reason

When I go to vote here in Florida, my ID gets verified by electronic means.

Passport? Yes!

State ID card? Yes!

So an employer in the UK can't check an applicant's citizenship or immigration status right now?

Sounds like a big hole in the system.

I have a VISA debit card. It is connected to a bank account through which hundreds of thousands of dollars have passed.

Electronic means can be dicked with, can’t it?

It was a lot harder when people had to sign in a voter roll book, leave a written signature behind. And I’m old enough to remember when the poll watchers would cover the original with a slip of paper first.

Oh, those were the days.

Shortly after implementation, you’ll see vehicles coming out that require the insertion of your ID to start.
