For years, Starbucks has been circling the "go woke, go broke" drain, and they've been trying to reverse course: ending their open bathrooms policy, going back to plastic straws, and even reportedly disallowing pride decorations.
They've tried everything short of not burning their beans or lowering the price of their drinks to lure back the other half of the country they spurned and have only managed to upset the folks still going to Starbucks.
Now according to CNN, Starbucks has announced massive layoffs and store closures.
Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol announced Thursday that Starbucks will close hundreds of stores this month, or about 1% of its locations.
That's roughly 500 stores.
Niccol explained to employees the company underwent a review of its footprint and the locations that will close were ones ‘unable to create the physical environment our customers and partners expect, or where we don't see a path to financial performance.'
Starbucks is also laying off another 900 corporate positions, on top of the 1,000 positions laid off in February.
But Niccol has more plans to save the company.
He's raising wages 2% (for everyone not losing their job), and He's remodeling 1,000 stores to make them cozy coffee shops again.
I'm not sure how any of that will help anyone afford coffee at Starbucks or believe that they've really changed back into a place that just sells coffee again, but we'll see.
Their woke BS hurt business but I also think they’re facing more competition, and they refuse to lower prices.
I had a feeling that punkin’ spice latte would be the final nail.
I don’t know if it was this CEO or an earlier one but didn’t he say he didn’t want Trump supporters buying Starbucks? Happy to comply.

I like to order the Double-Smoked Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich just to upset the vegans who hang out there.
Same here. I never understood the appeal.
We make our own.
Espresso, milk, my homemade pumpkin butter, some whip cream out of a can topped with pumpkin pie spice...
Cheaper, tastier, fewer calories.
That would be a very stupid CEO......................
Seems like they are closing locations mostly in blue cities in blue states.
Starbucks started a coffeehouse culture model, and though not a coffee drinker myself, my late wife enjoyed the process of sitting and drinking a cup to let the world rush by. She then switched off Corporate Coffee unless she was traveling, to one or two local coffee shops that were the equivalent of a daytime pub. Made friends, conversations, connections with similar minded adults.
Not my pace, nor my cup of tea, but it did help me by giving her an outlet
One of those locations is near the Plaza in Santa Fe. A VERY touristy area in a VERY blue city.
Hmmmmmmm
What I never understood about Starbucks is
I absolutely love hot coffee with French vanilla in it.
I can get cold coffee with French vanilla in it and it taste delicious.
Or with the caramel. But if you want hot coffee like that, they can’t do it.
Never made any sense to me.
I like my coffee at home.
Gone a few times, but prices too high. 3-4 bucks for a cup of coffee?
Nah. Dollar Tree has name brand (harry and Dave) name ground coffee about 15 cups worth for$1.25. Simply boil it, decant off the liquid. Add whatever you want. Done. About 50 cents per cup max..if you want additives. Put in a thermos bottle for road trip...No line waiting, no “who knows” messes with the additives, etc...
It’s a cultural fad that will pass in time, just like all the others..................
Sometimg you only do once the coffee tastes like they burned the brans must be from lowest priced seller.
900 is only 18 per state. Hardly worth the headline.
Proud to say I’ve never been in a $tarbucks. I’m having a nice cup of my own cheapo coffee from a cheapo coffee maker with a splash of my own “artisan cottage hand crafted” cheapo vanilla extract and having avocado, poached egg on homemade tomato toast on my own porch enjoying the morning with the cats and dog listening to the birds and squirrels as geese fly by. Didn’t have to put my shoes on to drive an hour to get overpriced swill wondering what a green haired wokie put in my cup.

The nationwide spikes in the minimum wage can’t be helping them. Socialism has consequences.
Thanks for posting this, I’ll check it out.
I remember one poster said they get their beans from off the floor of the Maxwell House plant................
