The leftist media keeps using this term “provocateur” as if it were some sort of pejorative, someone who intentionally causes arguments or discussions, or intentionally makes other people feel angry, offended, or uncomfortable.
In the marketplace of ideas, discussions are very necessary to come to some sort of consensus that is workable for all parties involved. But in the Aristotelian process of reasoning through a discussion, using both deductive logic and an analytic inductive method, there is no effort to simply confront the other party in terms of “right” or “wrong”. That was the method applied by Charlie Kirk, in his first listening to the position held by the person, then producing a counter argument, and arriving as a compromise - thesis, antithesis, synthesis, the Hegelian dialectic method.
Both COULD be considered to be “provocateur”, but in a civilized world, neither becomes a pejorative term.
