This is a bigger step to socialism than Mamdani opening five city-owned grocery stores.

Agreed. This is one of those Trump “I’m not liberal or conservative. I’m just practical.” moves that I’m uncomfortable with.

Love the move. We need the chips. War is coming.

You do realize that Trump could easily invoke the Defense Production Act anytime he feels like it.

It would actually be fascism not socialism.

That’s because we all know Bernie Sanders is a Socialist. I’m surprised Trump is moving that way.

It is legitimat now to use the term “fascist.” Fascism is government “partnership” wherein the government tells the private industry what to produce.10% ownership in a huge corporation is a controlling interest in that it is a big enough bloc of shears that the shareholder can assemble a voting majority almost automatically. I do not think Trump is fascist in intent but the temptation to use the 101% to cause Intel to produce what the government wants is pretty strong.

You can already see "conservatives" contorting themselves into pretzels to justidy this. Nothing but BS rationalizations with no thought about the precedent this sets

God help us all if the Democrats get their act together and win again.

Kind of ironic. Aregentina elected a Reaganite about the same time the U.S. elected a Peronist.

Well, it's more like fascism than socialism. To truly get to the "full" fascist point, the business partnership must be used to suppress the public (like what Biden was doing w/social media) and voting must be disallowed - i.e. the totalitarian part isn't here yet (though we inch closer every day).

Now, if the government starts having Intel put back doors into their chips so the FBI can sneak in when it wants...

So now the government is looking to buy into second tier chip makers?

This is a bad idea.

I trust President Trump, there must be a very valid reason.

Is it all that much different than what we did during WWII, forcing the auto companies to convert to manufacturing planes and tanks? I don’t see why we couldn’t do the same with chip manufacturers, as we certainly want to have control over the chips that go into our military equipment.

I recall a project many MANY years ago (early 70s) using Intel 4004 processor chip in a project. this was a precursor to the 8008 chip in the early PCs. It used only 4 bit memory. Intel bragged that it took several dozen engineers nearly a year to design the chip. We’ve come a long-long way since then.

Trump said the ceo is a good guy. He is a Chinese agent and should be fired from Intel.
