'Japanese First' party shakes up election with alarm over foreigners

An upstart party is gaining support ahead of elections in Japan by railing against a 'silent invasion' of immigrants, pushing the government to tackle fears about foreigners as it drags into the mainstream rhetoric once confined to the political fringe.

Birthed on YouTube during the COVID-19 pandemic spreading conspiracy theories about vaccinations and a cabal of global elites, the party, Sanseito, is widening its appeal with a 'Japanese First' campaign ahead of Sunday's upper house vote.

And while polls show it may only secure 10 to 15 of the 125 seats up for grabs, it is further eroding the support of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's shaky minority government increasingly beholden to opposition parties as it clings to power.

"In the past, anyone who brought up immigration would be attacked by the left. We are getting bashed too, but are also gaining support," Sohei Kamiya, the party's 47-year-old charismatic leader, told Reuters in an interview.

"The LDP and Komeito can't stay silent if they want to keep their support," Kamiya added, referring to Ishiba's Liberal Democratic Party, which has ruled Japan for most of the past seven decades, and its junior coalition partner.

Kamiya's message has grabbed voters frustrated with a weak economy and currency that has lured tourists in record numbers in recent years, further driving up prices that Japanese can ill-afford, political analysts say.

They are getting a lot of immigrants from India so it makes sense for this anti-immigrant party to become more popular.

Japanese have always been “for Japanese”

The present woke-globalist wave encompassing the world had some inroads in Japan, but certainly only to a very small fraction of the destruction caused in the West.

Only in the West is it fashionable to hate your own country, its founding people, and its culture.

What’s surprising is that people think this nonsense will fly in places like Japan or China.

Do these immigrants from India take jobs or are they just coming as tourist to spend money?

Don’t see why the Japs would care about tourist coming over unless they are loud drunken trouble makers (like those ghetto tourist on Carnival cruise lines).

It’s taken 100 years, but the ghosts of Toyama, along with the Black Dragons, are about to rise up.

To make things worse, Japan’s national debt makes ours look like an Amscot check, so when that all collapses, militant nationalism will return. If we’re lucky, we won’t get Hirohito part deux.

Why aren’t Whites allowed to say “Ausländer raus”? It’s only ok for Asians and Africans to do it?

The Japanese are getting a lot of those troublemaker tourists who are making asses out of themselves and causing problems.

It is getting bad enough that many Japanese are sick of all foreigners.

Yeah, there was absolutely nothing shady about covid or the so-called "vaccine". And there is certainly no cabal of global elites.

Since when are tourists called immigrants? Obviously they take jobs. Globalists are evil and infect every govt.

My 25 years on business travel to Japan taught me how rigid the Japanese were (past tense) on jeopardizing the purity of Japanese culture by allowing lots of immigrants in.

The death to birth replacement rate in Japan is very low these days. The population is becoming much older. Businesses and industry are having trouble filling positions with young Japanese. There is just not enough of them.

So more immigrants are let in and there goes the neighborhood and their culture.

It would be weird for a frenchman to say Auslander Rays 😀

But seriously, lots of countries have nativist movements. The white (and brown) Brits esmyed to keep the white Poles and Romanians out

Poles have the same. South Africans are discriminatory to other Africans.

Even in Bombay, they have movements to keep the other nations of India out!

The Japanese are the most racist people on earth.

I don't know, native Hawaiians can probably give them a good run for the money, if not beat the Japanese.

To the Japanese a couple of dozen immigrants is too much.

I was in Kanagawa this spring and talked with some Sanseito people (they’re always in orange) and they handed me literature. Basically anti-foreigner (residents) and anti-vaccine.

All the leftists are spazzing out about them because the right in Japan has usually been the LDP (squishy right and now more like the Tories of UK), but 20-40 somethings are flocking to Sanseito now (oldies are usually always going to vote LDP) and the Japanese media has been captured by the left as Rahm Emannuel was ambassador there during the Trump years and pushed a lot of the institutions left.
