Fuel to the engines of the Air India plane involved in a deadly crash was cut off moments after take-off, a preliminary investigation report has found.

In recovered cockpit voice recordings, the report said one of the pilots can be heard asking "why did you cut off?" - to which the other pilot replied he "did not do so".

The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed less than a minute after taking off on 12 June from Ahmedabad airport in western India, killing 260 people, most of them passengers. One British national miraculously survived the crash.

The investigation led by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to produce a more detailed report in 12 months...

Engines are designed to run on suction feed if necessary!

“I’d like to know where some people get the info that the switches were turned back on again after 10 seconds. “

The FDR.

“The switches were in the off position AFTER the crash.”

The switches were found in the RUN position after crash.

I would like to know where you are getting your misinformation!

“My speculation was IF there was a jumpseater. I haven’t seen anything one way or the other yet.”

No third ATP qualified person was listed in the crew.

If a third person were there it would have violated sterile cockpit rules.

“One would be in disbelief for 2-3 seconds I’d guess”

A few seconds to digest the warnings.

A few seconds to visually verify and start flipping.

You don’t know whar you are talking about. Any licensed pilot is always welcome to sit in the cockpit if the Capt oks it.

They only need to show the Capt a valid pilot license and medical; and have their company listed listed as an approved company by the Capts company!

It is extremely rare for a Capt to say no.

I agree with you. Blancolirio, Juan Brown, is THE ONLY source I trust for accurate analysis of events involving aircraft.

“Engines are designed to run on suction feed if necessary!”

That is the tank supply method. Jet engines still require fuel pumps to increase pressure to injectors.

“There are several redundant fuel systems on aircraft. Mechanical, electric, and running off vacuum from the engines.”

To give you a nice answer, considering the location of the switches and how they’re protected, it’s most likely that they shut off every source of fuel to the engine when they’re flipped. I suspect that there are other fuel switches (or display commands) that go into the operation of the system, such as the valves and pumps.

“Can whatever mechaism is used to cut off the flow of fuel to the engines, like a solenoid/actuator/valve, be activated remotely...?”

You’d have to get into the detailed design of the system to know what what can be done remotely, or what could be modified to be done remotely. Still, it’s highly unlikely given what we know at this points - everything points to the crew.

Yathink? but they still run!...lol

I remember trying to discuss an issue once before, and you didn't know what you were talking about then either!

I won't make the mistake of wasting any more time with you here or otherwise....lol....:)

P.S. One other thing, though, of the list of things you are clueless about, a STERILE COCKPIT has nothing at all to do with who is in the cockpit. Nothing, nada, squat, zippo, absolutely NOIHING! It only refers to no extraneous non flight related conversation in the cockpit below 10,000 feet--regardless of who is there?

Have a nice day, no worries, I won't waste anymore of my time with you now or in the future....lol

“Engines are designed to run on suction feed if necessary!”

When the fuel is cutoff there is NO fuel flow. The engine stops runnung.

One of 2 things.

1. On purpose murder/suicide (51%)

2. The safeties on the fuel switches were faulty. (49%)

What emergency procedure includes shutting off fuel to a perfectly good engine?
