Microsoft pulls major tech conference from Seattle over crime, drug use, homelessness

Seattle has lost one of its most high-profile tech events due to mounting concerns over public safety and deteriorating conditions in the city’s downtown core. Microsoft has confirmed that it will no longer host its annual Build conference in Seattle starting in 2026, citing issues related to rampant homelessness, visible drug use, and urban decay.

According to an internal email obtained by journalist Jonathan Choe of the Discovery Institute, Visit Seattle—the city’s official tourism and marketing organization—was informed that Microsoft will cancel its 2026 event and release all future holds for the conference in Seattle. The email, titled “DEFINITE BOOKING CANCELLATION NOTICE,” said the decision was heavily influenced by the experience of company leadership and attendees walking the downtown core between the Hyatt Regency and the Arch Building on 8th Street.

“The customers cited the general uncleanliness of the street scene, visibility of individuals engaging in drug use, and unhoused individuals, including the recurring tent in the Arch Tunnel,” the email stated. “Microsoft has previously addressed these concerns and Visit Seattle has been working actively with SPD, DSA [Downtown Seattle Association], the Care team, and others... Unfortunately for Build, it was a contributing factor to their final decision to move out of Seattle.”

“Hope my former friends in Seattle enjoy what they voted for...”

The left is incapable of connecting the cause to the effect. Those former friends will still consider themselves superior to the likes of you and me, both morally and intellectually.

Those communists in Seattle will blame all their negative outcomes on evil corporations and, of course, Trump.

They are indoctrinated beyond redemption. We can’t coexist with them.

Sure, as if the Microsoft elitists never supported the filthy, stinky Democrats for all these years. Oh, and Joe biden is sharp as a tack.

“unhoused individuals”. Okay. Even my spell checker doesn’t believe that’s a real word.

No sympathy. The big tech bros. have supported and heavily funded Democrats and this is the result.

They have no one to blame but themselves - but instead they’ll blame Trump for the degradation and destruction of Seattle, just as the same lefties are blaming Trump for the riots in LA.

Went to Oracle World back in the 2000s in San Francisco and there were tens of thousands of attendees. Elton John performed at Cow Palace & we had a blast. Couple years ago, Ellison moved it to Las Vegas due to all the Kalifornia related issues.

You would think that the people who could develop apps such as the "Street Feces" digital maps would know not to host a conference in a leftist dump.

Viva Las Vegas! Microsoft should hold this conference in a nice hotel that is away from the Las Vegas grunge. Give the more modest hotels a shot at the big bucks Microsoft.

Except for Elon Musk and Peter Thiel, 99% of them supported the Democratic Party. In the process, they've made Seattle and San Francisco uninhabitable.

“Sure, as if the Microsoft elitists never supported the filthy, stinky Democrats for all these years.”

Exactly.

Microsoft can’t even hold its own event in its own city because of its own choices.

What? What? What? Companies are waking up to the fact customers don't want to stay in democrat hellholes in order to see the newest products? It's about damn time. And this goes double for stadiums, large venues etc that terrify the 'last to leave' from an event.

Yes. And don’t forget Musk was an Obama donor and voter back in the day.

He plays both sides, like a lot of these guys do - hedging his bet with whichever party is in power. I remember Rush talking about this, said Bill Gates didn’t contribute enough to the party that won and they were punishing him.

I also do not believe Musk is not mentally stable and there are rumors of heavy drug use.
