The University of Virginia’s Center for Politics shifted their rating of the race for incumbent [Democrat] Maine Rep. Jared Golden’s Congressional District from “leans [Democrat]” to “toss-up” on Tuesday.
By presidential partisanship, Maine’s 2nd Congressional District is the most Republican district currently held by a Democrat, according to the Center for Politics’ analysis. The congressional race’s move to the “toss-up” column after Golden announced on May 20 that he is seeking reelection in 2026 instead of making a bid for governor or Senate.
President Donald Trump won the seat by 9 percentage points in the 2024 presidential election — marking his largest margin of victory in a seat where a Democrat was reelected to Congress. [The Democrat] narrowly won a fourth term in office in 2024, beating his Republican opponent former NASCAR driver Austin Theriault by less than 1%. The president also won [the Democrat]’s district in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

In early May, former Republican Maine Gov. Paul LePage announced that he is running against [the Democrat] for the state’s 2nd Congressional District. LePage remains the only declared Republican candidate in the race, as Theriault has ruled out a second House run and endorsed him. Moreover, Golden could also face a primary challenge ....
[The Democrat] announced in May that he has decided to run for reelection in 2026 and forgo a potential bid for Maine Governor or Senate.
A recent survey from the Congressional Leadership Fund, a GOP super PAC — first reported by NOTUS — found that [the Democrat] received just 43% of the vote to LePage’s 48% in a head-to-head matchup in the 2nd Congressional district.

You don’t get to Maine (aka: “Massachusetts North”) much,do you!
Ranked choice voting is fraud. It affords ONLY the voters who lost, additional votes. It should be challenged in court on the concept it violates the principle of one-person, one-vote.
No, and I still don't understand how ranked choice voting benefits Ds over Rs.
Long story short...nobody knows exactly how it works. Nobody can fully explain it. As a result in a Rat Party stronghold officials can just say "oh,although the Republican,Mr Smith, got more votes we're declaring the Rat,Ms Jones, the winner.
And if it's appealed the state's Rat Party Attorney General declares it valid. And if it's appealed further the state's Rat Party appeals courts declare it valid.
IIRC that very thing happened in Maine's 2nd Congressional District recently. Don't know if it was '22...or '20 but it was recently. Sadly,I'm too lazy to look it up on wikipedia.
And as for Maine...think back to the exchange that Maine's Rat Party hack Governor and DJT had just recently. She stated to him that men were gonna continue competing in women's sports there,DJT said he was gonna stop it and she said "see you in court". That gives you a pretty good idea of just how depraved Maine really is.
Can we trade Maine for Alberta?
Excellent post.
Some folks can’t see an elephant two feet in front of them.
